festa 206
weell as friday was a cracking day me and wor kid decided it was to good to miss so the plan was get on the ground for 00:30 do our normal night shift then switch guns as daylight breaks and do some corvid bashing in the morning .so we arrive as planned i had the hw100 with a dedicated d141 nv scope wor kid was using his bsa s10 with his yukon senital nv scope so after a quick zero check off we go darryl headed to the old train embankment i headed to warrens villa after about an hour the radio springs into life "ive not seen 1 yet ! " to which i replied " nor have i" which is very unusual so back to the van for a quick cup of home made soup... which i must add was very nice lol plan b was to move to the other side of the permission so a quick ten minute drive we arrived parked the van on top of the hill wor kid kept to the high ground and i took the valley 15 minutes in i spotted a bunny about 50 mtrs away the only problem was the moon was full and low it was that bright i didnt need the ir on the nv scope anyhow this was gonna be a slow stalk to get to my zero range ... as i got closer the ears went up on the bunny oops its heard seen or smelt me i was about 43 mtrs away i would of preferred to be a little closer but thats what mildots are for the only problem my nv doesnt have mildots its an upturned v but i knew where to put the scopes to ensure the head shot at that distance scopes up 3 deep breaths exhale and squeeze rabbit didnt stand much chance against the 16 grain fx pellet..1 in the bag i radioed wor kid who had only seen 2 which were a good distance away tonight was poor very poor so we decided to move to another part of the permission back in the van and away we went it was now about 03:30 and still bright with the moon about 30mins in wor kid bagged his 1st 1 of the night and for the next 3 hours that was it ... something was wrong tonight this place is normally over run in 6 hours we both fired about 13 pellets ..10 to zero ... 2 to discharge and 1 at a rabbit lol as day light started to break we changed guns i got the s200 out and wor kid changed to his hw100 so a quick cuppa then the day shoot starts we start as we always do with a zero session target set to a 30 mtrs i went 1st with the s200 2 pellets straight on top of each other zero had not moved from our last session wor kid checked his hw100 and all was not well he was all over the shop so after a good few shots with still no joy we tried some different pellets same problem so it was either scope or gun so we put my scopes onto his hw100 pellet on pellet whilst he done this i put his onto the s200 and you would of thought i had a shot gun lol so somehow his scopes became damaged these had spent the past couple of month sitting in the airing cupboard so we dont know what went wrong but hayho shit happens just as we started to pack up a feral came and landed on the barn to see what we were doing this barn was about 30mtrs and the s200 was still waiting to be put away so instead of discharging into the ground the shot was taken well the feral should of minded his own !! lol so in about 9 hours we only had 2 bunnies and 1 feral .... as we were at the far end of the permission we had to drive through most of the permission and saw shit load of bunnies sitting out in the morning sun ...it looks like the bunnies have changed tactics next time were come up here its gonna be a day shoot instead of a night shoot ....wor kid will add the pictures soon ..... i hope lol atb gary 1 Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Airing cupboards are not a good idea to store guns or bits of guns in. The heat in those cupboards can really rack up, and as the song goes, store it in a cool dry place (see travelling wilburys volume 3 for more details). The scope could have been expanding way past it's tolerances and be, well, knackered to put none to fine a point on it! Quote Link to post

Marksman 934
its not an airing cupboard as such, but never had a problem before as all my gear is stored in there, including the rifles in the gun cabinet. The scope has sat on the shelf since its removal and was fooked on refitting...work that one out! Wouldnt care...I had only used it 4-5 times too Darryl Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Airing cupboards may not be hot when you go in them, but it might be worth bunging a maximum temperature thermometer in there to see how hot it does get, you may be very surprised! Some can get up to over 30 degrees c! Edited March 20, 2011 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
