went up there in 2003.. dont wanna bore ya but,,bitta info for you..[my experiance only]..and i am not trying to put you of..

the stars/milky way,,you will never look at the night sky in the same way again..lol..... got no words for it..stunning.. the ice fields marvellous..

it was the hardest and most tiring thing i've ever done..suffered with altitude sickness big time.[its hard trying to hide it]!!! i was proud that i never took diamox, but if i did it again i think i would. eat and drink as much as you can.i lost over half a stone that week.. take mars/snickers with ya.. the feeling at uhuru is,,well the best ever..you will be surprised at some really looking fit types that dont make it..dont forget its only you who knows how dangerous your putting your body through,,when your walking past and see the name plates of people that have died up there..

poley poley..

even had a fag at uhuru....lol.............. sad but true..

my charity of choice would be as all ready mentioned,,help for heroes..

best of luck..

regards byron..

i think a local charity would also benifit from your efforts as well as the nationwide ones, So you just gotta open your eyes and see some worthwhile causes in your locality

too... best of luck...

Snap.

Interesting, how long did you give yourself time to train for?

I am giving myself 10 months and in them 10 months I will be up and down the snowdon national park, peak district and Ben Nevis if I can get there.

I am 100% focused on doing this for 2 reasons, 1 for charity as it is nice to give back to people if they deserve it and 2 for self accomplishment and just to say I did it.

Any other information would be great, be it on this thread or through PM.

was going to go with a local lad..he's since summited everest] but he let me down..so just booked and went..

i had six weeks to get fit..lol............know were enough!! all i can say is youv'e given your self plenty of time for fitness,,but its the altitude thats the leveller..some it gets,, others it dont bother them..what i know now i would read up on altitude sickness, and people,s experiances.i hired a sleeping bag from the company i went with[about twenty quid..

if you take a camera sleep with it in your bag [the batteries freeze and die] i took throw away cameras.you gotta drink drink drink to keep hydrated..and eat like a pig..lol.......both of which i could'nt stomach..the only part of me that was cold [summit night] was a little finger the rest i was sweating.. on summit night dont look at the mountain as one thing,, i broke it up in my mind as sections ie williams point,,jamaica rocks,,hans meyers cave ,,gilmans point ,,uhuru[summit]each time i reached one of these points it became a little victory for me...and drove me on.. get over gilmans point and watch the sunrise,,then another slog up to uhuru.. if there are any masai guides on your quest stick with them on your return ie on your way back down,, moorland/jungle they see/hear things you will miss..

cheers..

Good advice and I have in my head how I want to train, but I have got to put it into practise now. Altitude sickness I will research on and the breaking it up into little missions is a good idea. I already just want to get up there lol.
