£10 an hour plus £5 per mole, farmer payes for any missing traps, due to four or two legged thieves....

6pointer

how the fck can you ask the farmer to pay for missing traps :tongue2:

Fckin simple mate, other contractors go on with full tank of fuel and leave with full tank, this is the norm..

Why should it be any different for me????? leave with same ammount of traps i go on with....

Suppose its down to trust, like most things in life if you dont try and take the p*ss....

Cant fault you there 6pointer. I work on the same conditions regarding traps.

I have one farm that without fail old brock takes a couple of traps, yesterday in fact!!

Another didnt tell me he was having contractors in to spread fert, nor did he tell the contractors to watch for the markers. After a trap bill that changed

The absolute bain has to be golf courses. I have one which seems to have more dog walkers than members! I now use THEIR traps. You cant put markers down for obvious reasons but they still go missing and if they dont the traps get flattened with the mowers.

Seems absolutely fair to me

Moles are more active then ever since poison was banned.

I catch moles, but being as most mole catchers are certificated from the guild of british mole catchers register and done the training, I would not be classed as a "professional" despite years of hands on approach trapping moles.

Most mole catchers charge a call out fee - You have to..how are you meant to make any money if you dont? you need to cover your fuel however long the distance is. For farm land, I charge £10.00 per mole caught, with a discount on the second one i catch and so on and so on. I charge for domestic gardens, (not taking in to account fuel charges) anywhere in the region of £40.00 to £80.00 + £15.00 trap set up fee no matter how many moles I catch that is a fixed sum. Traditional mole catchers (most of them anyway) Have a policy of no mole no fee, so if you are travelling long distance you better get probing for that tunnel because it will be a long way to come back if you dont catch him, thus loosing out on money. if you need any more info inbox me.

Being certified doesent mean your a better molecatcher than the next man nor does any amount of training. You have to be out there up to your elbows in it gaining the experience and know how. You train yourself.

As to obtaining " certification" from the "guild" it all costs and thats what it all comes down to. Being a member certainly doesent guarantee anybody work.

So why would you not consider yourself a professional? If you are out there doing it then your living the molecatcher dream!!

Hello to the mole catchers. I only recently discovered these forums & Hunting Life. Lots of interesting stuff posted on here.
Part of my duties as a maintenance man on a private estate is pest control and that's how I got into mole catching. I'd done plenty of rats, mice, wasps and ants etc before the mole hills started bubbling up, so I found an old Duffus in a drawer and went from there. I started doing private mole jobs last year - all gardens so far - and have started generating a useful 2nd income out of it. Just beer money at the moment but more than enough for a few pints. I like the work and am fascinated by all the different traps and their suitability to different situations. I use a lot of Traplines and I'd be interested to have other opinions on them - the good, the bad and the ugly if you like. Although I carry Duffus and Talpex, I've gotten into the bad habit of defaulting to tlines which has revealed that certain moles won't have anything to do with them - they seem to just chuck 'em out the way. They also often fire without catching. Not on every job, but often enough to remind me that there is always another tool for the job. I really like the Trapline, and I'm working on refining my setting technique constantly. Just wondered what other mole men's experiences with them were. And to say hello.

Hi all, what does everyone use as a mole probe?I have done a search but there wasnt that much on the subject, also what do you think of the flatpack one?worth the money?

      Just out of interest......

Which trap do you reach for first? You can explain why if you choose.

For me, it's the Duffus every time, although I can see the attraction of the Talpex type traps.
