shaaark 10,714
I owned a first cross 25yr ago when they were a bit more popular,he stood at 32tts and even when fully fit was far too slow for most fields in the northwest,he took too long to get up to speed,he was a lovely dog, great temperament, his only redeeming factor was he was good on a dig,he went north to scotland to my mate were he did a lot better with him,he just needed more ground to run at than down here.I've had a few deerhound/greyhound x collie/greyhounds crosses and they are much quicker off the mark and will take all quarry, don't get cut on wire and are very tough allround dogs, some can seem a little laid back at times but they are a very honest cross capable of anything asked of them, atb, wirralman Agree with a lot of that. Most of the land round my way is made up of fairly small, tight fields and you need a dog which is quicker off the mark than most first x D/G. A mate of mine, in south wales, worked and bred them for a number of years, but had to travel a long way to work the land that suited them, and although they did catch a few rabbits, it was at larger quarry that they excelled, and one in paticular was literally jaw dropping to watch! Very capable dogs and pleasing dogs on the right land Quote Link to post
