mickyatch 37
Alright lads im typing this write up to ask your opions and knowlege on building artifical fox earts the peice of ground i work with my dog is littered with around 4 or 5 drains which foxes dont seem to be using and after hours and hours of checking for earths ive drew a blank and im pulling my hair out like . So after scrounging around i have managed to get hold of around 100 bricks and flags along with some piping and im thinkin about building quite a large artifical earth as there will be two or three of us building it . Does it make a difference on the amount of holes depth ... site ... size ... weather you chuck the odd dead rabbit down ... or straw for bedding(so vixens will cub in it ) any help would be much appreciated atch Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,813
If your gonna have it approx 9" square then thats 3 course of bricks, so 6 bricks per one brick length. So 100 bricks will only get ya about 12 feet of artificial I believe. Ya gonna need WAY more bricks to consider anything more than 2 entrances... Quote Link to post
shotgun tim 27
iv got about 200 breeze blocks you can have for free just come and uplift Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
The fact the site is 'littered with drains' and they aint using them is a dead giveaway. Dont waste your time. Maybe its not a foxy spot or they live elsewhere and use your site to feed. And if you are checking drains at this time of year, Im not surprised your drawing a blank. FTB Quote Link to post
mickyatch 37
well what else have i got to check if i cant find earths ? ... and i was only digging them 2 and a half feet in depth and using three bricks so you sound about right ... and breeze blocks where you at like mate ? Moorsman 17
Ftb I agree with your 1st statement on the land he.s hunting but this time of year quote what's wrong with a nice dry stone drain or 9 innch pot pipe bet if you got a call you,d go lol Quote Link to post
steveS.Yorks 161
200 breeze gives you 44 linear meters of tunnel to go at,easily enough for a 3 entrance earth, better still 2 smaller earths, dont put it/them where they might flood, sounds obviouse but the water table can be just under the surface in some areas, and if theres plenty of drains its a fair bet they aren't there for nothing. And i know of artificials that do flood in very wet weather, dont know who built them theyr'e old,and possibly they didnt flood years ago,bit of a waste though all that hard work for them to flood. Maybe you should stop banging your head on that wall, doesn't look like you could afford any more brain damage Quote Link to post
