mole catcher 1
NOW BEFORE ANYONE GIVES ME A HARD TIME.... i was just wondering how if the law states that all fox snares should have a stop fitted, that the two snares set by two differant people in two differant pics dont have stops fitted? i can see in the pic buy pegandgun that he has a stop fitted to stop the snare opening to far, but this doesnt fullfill the legal requierments regarding a stop to prevent accidental captures. how if we are to keep this method lawfull can such pics be to our advantage? OldTrapCollector 377
I can see in the pic buy pegandgun that he has a stop fitted to stop the snare opening to far, but this doesnt fullfill the legal requirements regarding a stop to prevent accidental captures. I am not going to give you a hard time mole catcher, we are all here to learn and pass on advice including me, and I am open to correction from other members. Correct me if I am wrong P&G but that 'stop' in your pic is just a sleeve of tubing to receive the wire tealer pin smoothly? It is not a stop at all. I also believe that a stop on a wire is a nicety not a legal necessity, to prevent leg hold captures of stock and deer. The only lawful part so far as I am aware is that the snare runs freely and not self locking in any way, and that they are checked inside every 24 hours, although I am open to correction by you Pro's. john b 38
Self locking snares are prohibited under the 1981 Wildlife and countryside act. The current DEFRA code of practice does recommend the use of a 'stop' on snares, but it's not clear that this is a legal requirement. In fact the DEFRA consultation on snares contains this suggestion which implies that it is not yet law 3) Legislative changes The Group recommended that there should be a legal requirement for all snares to be fitted with fixed stops to eliminate or minimise any risk of causing suffering through constriction. Defra response: Defra will consider making stops a legal requirement. So, I don't think anyone is doing anything wrong here. JB Quote Link to post
woodga 170
a stop on a fence line snare would surley mean more stress as the animal was entangled in the fencing there for would be of no real value nearly all fence caught foxes are dead in the wire , stops are fitted to all our trail snares and snares set on wood land pathways where we may encounter a deer or other non target animals and if snaring where these are likely to be caught the use of break aways helps prevent this this one has a stop on it and one very dead fox Edited February 6, 2007 by woodga Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
PLEASE dont think i was in any way trying to make a stink or try and apportion blame for bad working practise, nothing was further from my mind. And thanks to JohnB ive now been corrected on a missunderstanding on my part Im just a simple mole trapper who should take time to read properly the info at his dispossal and look out for those sneeky little words like ''RECOMMENDED that there should be a legal requierment"" apolygies to pegandgun for drawing any unwanted attention to what was in fact a snare set WITHIN the law as it stands at this moment in time Quote Link to post

There we were myself my wife and a friend and his girlfriend [nice sort of girl but a bit thick!] enjoying a nice walk along the beach...just ahead of us was the wooden steps that take you up the cliff, which is about thirty feet high. The two lovebirds race each other to the steps and then carried on up to the top of the cliff. My wife and I had just reached the bottom of the steps when we heard a sickening scream and turned to see my mate lying in a crumpled heap...I rushed over to help but he pushed me aside and looked up at his girlfriend who was looking over the cliff-edge sobbing...still sprawled on the beach he shouted...YOU STUPID COW...YOU STUPID, THICK FECKING COW...WHEN I SAID TOSS ME OFF I DIDN,T FECKING MEAN TOSS ME OFF.....YOU THICK..... STUPID...... FECKING BITCH..... Sooo...there you have it....dangerous old things misunderstandings!!!! Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
Im sure these fellas know there snaring back to front, i wouldnt question them. Just listen and learn without questioning those who know, we as an indervidual (?) wouldnt be able to learn and further our skills. Blind obediance without asking questions isnt in my opinion the best way to learn, often leads to oneself becoming blinkered. This is where this forum is a great learning tool, opens up the world as being such a small place and puts us in touch with people that hold vast amounts of knowledge, this can only be a good thing. One thing we must ALL remember, none of us knows all there is to know about any given subject, you never stop learning as long as you live. Quote Link to post
