Joe67 239
i was planing to lay slabs this week and build a good sized ferret court next week for the 2 hobs and 1 jill i have, yesterday i had to split the 2 hobs because they are in season and fighting alot.so as it stands i have 3 ferrets in a hutch each. whats your opinions keep them in different hutchs till there out of season and build the ferret court or use the money from the ferret court and get both hobs neutered to be honest id love to build the ferret court, would be alot better for the 3 than being in the hutch, but am thinking maybe its best to get the 2 hobs neutered Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Maybe try to build a court that you can divide in two, and get one of the hobs vac'd. That way in winter you can run all three together, and in summer split the one entire hob off (but he still is kind of living in company) and leave the vac hob and jill together (saving need for jill jab). The one 8,481
You got them in the wrong sexes for me id of went for one snipped hob and two jills and let them live together all year round ,dont know if you want to change a hob for a jill with somebody ?. but you would be better keeping a spare hutch just now till there out of breeding condition Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,935
Awrite Joe. Yup two Hobs and a Jill is the wrong way round for me as well, but never mind, Still have to sort out the wee buggers just now. A dividing hutch is a good bet, I have one and its as handy as hell, even if it lies empty most of the year. The best bet for the long run is to decide what Hob to keep and get him the snip, then swap the other bugger for a Jill. At the moment I have 1 Hob (snipped ) and 4 Jills,, perfect for me like. They can pretty much live together all year with little hassle. ATB Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Could get the jill done. But i'd go for a dividing cage and one vac'd, or one vac'd and swap the other for a jill. Quote Link to post
Joe67 239
spose i could do that, the problem is finding someone up here that would swap.i might let the huge hob go then going on what you guys are saying Quote Link to post

Do you have ferrets mate????. You go on about breeding your "wild euro poley" bloodline down to exactley 12 %(no more ,no less !) So I have to assume you`re a bit of an expert on Mustelidae , So I would expect you to know why Hob ferrets get Neutered. But if not I`1l repeat it again, It is so that more than one Hob can be kept together without them trying to kill each other or kicking the crap out of each other. THAT is what the point is. It has no effect on them working and makes safe animal husbandry easier for folk that do not have the facillities to split them up Why you would advise anyone NEVER to do it is a bit strange. theferreter 311
if i was yourself mate i would get one of your hobs vac and find a good home for the other and while your other hob is kept on his own recovering from his operation for around 8 weeks this will give u plenty of time to get in a new jill or two out of good working line and make a start on your new ferret court aswell Quote Link to post
