shepp 2,285
Now let's get this settled once and for all! Is there anybody on this site that has lost a dog or know somebody who has lost a dog, due to it not having it's boosters. I for one have never had a dog receive a booster and they have all made old age. I have never heard of a dog die either from lack of boosters.

airbourne 128
My dogs have had their jabs when they are pups and thats it,they have all lived to a good old age. Boosters are a con. I belive the strong survive and the weak die that his life.
Gaz_1989 9,539
Someone on here had immunity tests done on a 5 year old dog which never has boosters. It was defficient in immunity for either parvo or lepto, not sure which. Even if they are a con, my only concern is either a) invalidating insurance and vets refusing treatment down the line. Grubsy 1
Times have changed, how many stray dogs do you see wandering the streets these days??? I believe people with non working pet dogs all have theres jabbed up, so should think theres not many nastys out there to catch these days??? My mates got a little rat of a lasso apso! swear he gets that thing jabbed up every year! and it still probly wont last aslong as a dog thats had 1st jabs or not. I had a JR Terrier that lived till she was nearly 17! she never went to the vets! till her last day to be PTS Edited March 18, 2011 by Grubsy
bouncer 51
i had six beagles one time and none of them had a booster and all lived between 13 and 15 years old with no problems what so ever.
Guest chook
Lost two young dogs 14 years ago to parvo - had 3 others very ill with it at the same time, would i keep giving boosters every year, no i wouldn't WSAVA recommendations is every 3 years for an adult dog, pups - puppy jabs, then booster a year later then every 3 years, you wont invalidate you insurance if you follow the recommended guide lines and your vets shouldn't refuse you treatment either, my older dogs have never had a jab and the vets have never asked me either if i want them jab'd. http://www.vmd.gov.uk/pdf/WSAVAguidelines.pdf I still think over vaccination causes even more problems in the long run, the more you vaccinate - the more viruses will start to mutate,
skinner 348
never its the biggests vet con out there a vet telt me that himself total waste of money END OFF had dogs for 30 years and worked them , never gave them boosters and all lived a good long life ,boosters are a waste of money and its just a big con
CarraghsGem 92
with 2 unrelated pups (both my mams dachshunds) she nearly lost them with allergic reactions to their first vaccinations
shepp 2,285
I bloke I know lost an agility collie at 3 years old, it was a very short time after it's boosters, there was no diagnosis of what caused it's death but the guy believes it was the boosters. Maybe if there was a proper survey into dogs which had reactions and died of the boosters, who knows the it might even out weigh the benefits. Of course this will never happen because the vets would never let go of that cash cow. Edited March 19, 2011 by shepp

Mrs A.R.D 53
theres alot of parvo around our way unvaccinated dogs catch it around here all the time young and old. I would never miss a booster because iv seen what parvo does but i dont give my dogs the full booster everytime, it depends how old they are. when they dont have the full booster they just have Parvo-C and Lepto-2 this seems to have worked for me. i havnt seen or heard of a dog catching anything other than lepto or parvo around my way for a good few years.

paulsmithy83 567
Well got news for you fellas my dad works in making and designing these types of vaccines and also designs and test performance enhancing products for dogs. Boosters ARE nessecery now as they've change the way the vaccine works before it used to give you dog small amounts of each virus to train and teach your dogs immune system to fight the viruses and as a result have better immunity for life, similar to our meningitis jabs and such, well that's all changed. company's who make the vaccines realised much more money could be made by altering the vaccine to work in another method it now works in a different manner instead of improving the immune system it works by staying active in the dogs body in the same way flea drops work. It steps in before the immune system to distroy the virus and after 12 months that sytems disapates then it's just luck if your dog doesn't come in contact with it if you dont have a bosster to put that defence back. They call this new vaccine the live vaccine I think this is why now dogs need it every 12 months as it only stay live for that amount of time, I'm lucky with my dad being in the business to know these things but to you guys who think the vaccine last longer then 12 months are mistaken. Vets obviously love this new vaccine as more money is made and same to the companies who manufacture the vaccine . Hope I've helped clear this up for you lads and lasses and just hope it sinks in lol Edited June 1, 2011 by paulsmithy83
