went out to check on the ferrets earlier and only one came out so straight away i knew something was up. opened the sleeping compartment and my poley was dead, i house a poley and albino together, i got them about 3 month ago from different people but i put them together and kept an eye on them and they were fine and have been since.they have never fought worked together never had any problems. the last week or so every time i opened the hutch id pick the poley up and it would bite my finger not very hard like but it never did it before i just put it down to it coming in season. i know the albino had a litter last year, so im thinking they must have started fighting for the albino to kill it, anyone come across this before ?

Was the poley marked up like they had been fighting for you to think that?. I think if a ferret bites you that doesn't normally bite you its telling you something ,probably that it was sore ?.

yes it was marked up, it had it at the back of the neck, it wasnt a proper bite more like what a pup does to your hand when playing.

mate if they have lived together this long with out any problems then it wouldent of been because of a fight your wee polecat was just probely un well and a bit sore thats why she was trying to have a go a you she just dident want to be touched how old was the ferret mate most ferrets when they get sick go down hill very quick a most times theres isnt much you can do about it keep an eye on your albino just to make sure she hasent got any thing  and i would give your hutch a good cleaan out espically the sleeping area where she passed away

mistral mate

Hmm, can't be anything to do with that then I don't think. It's a wierd one, are they both Jills?

was thinking that myself mate i couldent see it being that either yea it two jills he kept together

well wierd, maybe they were just scrapping then. I've had ferrets since I was 7 and I've only ever had two that fought, and they were two hobs....even then though they would go at it big time but they never once even drew blood, it was more like really rough play fighting. I had to keep them in seperate hutches though in the end just in case. I suppose in any species of animals (or humans), you do get the odd loon with a short fuse or one that's just a bit mental, not a nice thing to happen though.

it is a bit of a strange one mate i dont think it was to do with fighting as the fella said they have lived together fine for the past few months with out any problems so i think its just down to natural causes and the wee ferret just wasent well only the fittest survive  at least he still has his wee albino jill and he dident lose the both of them
