.22lr Rimfire moderator - which to use?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I have a CZ452 with a 16" Varmint tube that came with the Edgar Brothers Sirocco SM11 moderator as part of the deal. I am only using subsonics at the moment and the crack from the muzzle is much louder than I expected!

What moderators would others recommend? I notice that the SAK is well used but does anyone use the proofed Twink Mk2 or Hogan Decimeter as both seem to do well albeit there have been very few reports floating around on them that I have seen. I don't want to spend any more than around the £75 mark and ideally something light if not shorter than the SM11.

Thanks,

David

Parker Hale. 40 bucks.

I use a SAK and DM80 on .22LR

The DM80 is wonderful build quality and much more expensive but in all honesty most moderators will do a very similar job on the subsonic .22LR

I am surprised that you have commented on the noise and cannot help wondering if your subs may be running a bit close to supersonic. Try a SAK, they are about as cheap as it gets and do a very good job. They are not so good on HMR thought, a dedicated 17 DM80 is much better for HMR.

Perhaps try a different subsonic round that may fly a little slower but still groups well.

As Les says, this could be a problem with your ammo going supersonic.

I have used a Parker Hale on my CZ452 for the past 15 years and using Eley subs, the only noise you hear is the bullet hitting the rabbit.

A SAK or PH or anything similar will do a good job, but before you waste your money, but a box of Eley or |Winchester and see if that makes a difference.

cheers
