Shotgun Licince, How can I get rid of it?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Because of problems at my home I am going to have to get rid of my shotgun because I dont know whats going to happen to me and where im going to end up staying so I think my best option is to get rid of my shotgun and my license which is such a shame as ive waited so long to get one.

So any advice on what I can do would be a massive help!

It will soon be put in the For Sale section!

Thanks

As long as you sell, or put into storage, any weapons that are on the ticket, why do you need to "get rid of" it? You'll get no money back, so you might as well keep hold of it, in case you end up somewhere where having a gun is possible. Otherwise you'll have to re-apply, with all the referees and everything, when you settle again.

If you really think that not having it is necessary (I can't think of a reason, but it's entirely up to you) then send it to the issuing firearms department, with a letter stating that you no longer wish to hold the certificate, and that you are returning it to them for cancellation. Ask them to acknowledge receipt by post, and/or email, to make sure they've got it (it might be worth sending it recorded delivery). I imagine you could also hand it in at your local station and ask them to forward it to the firearms department.

Like I say, I'd think long and hard before sending it back!

Hope things are better for you soon!

Why get rid of the license it's already paid for just sell ya gun that way when you get back on ya feet u don't have to go through all the license forms again

Hi mate,

I do not want a shotgun anymore as I am very rarley use it and so if I want to move from my house and live with my girlfriend it wont be possible to take everything with me and so I think im better of just getting rid if the shotgun and the licence. And I very much doubt I will be re-applying for a SGC again.

Thanks

:shok: Why did you apply for one in the first place? it doesn't seem to me your heart was in it when you applied for one as you seem to be letting it go so easily. :wallbash:

Hi mate I applied for the SGC when I was working on an estate as a gamekeeper and doing alot of pest control but because I left the work there and because of where I live basicly all of the land around me is owned by one estate which leases a shoot, I also applied for a job on this estate as a new person has bought the lease but I did not get the job! And when I called the estate office about doing pest control for the farmers which I have been working for many years they refused to let me any where near the land with my shotgun and only a privilaged few who are older and more conected get two shoot on the farmers land (its foxes mainly) and seen as I cant drive any where I see it a pointless having one if I cant use it when it could be being put good use!

Hang on to the licence. You gain nothing by giving it up and it may even help you with a future job application to mention it on your cv. Who can tell what is around the corner.

Sell your gun because that gets rid of the responsibility of ownership.

When your licence comes up for renewal that is the time to consider your position, not now.

Be a "glass is half full" person, not a "glass is half empty" one.

Good luck.....

Jake, thats a shame mate, keep hold of your license for the time being, you just dont know how the future will pan out. let it run to expiry date.

As for your gun, well if you sure you dont want it then selling it is probably the best option, especially if your not sure about where you will be living.

I think I know the shoot your on about, and yes its a shame, but as I have said before, there are plenty of other places to shoot round by you.

All the best and throw away your SGC, a lot of people work very hard for us to keep our right to shoot.
