Hob&Jill 258
Hi, My Beddy cross seems to have little light reddy-pink oval shaped things on her? She has 3 at the moment, one at the top of her leg, one on her ear and one her frount leg, does anyone have a clue what these are? She used to have one on her muzzle, but as far as I can see, it has gone. At first I was thinking it was a healing cut from one of the cats giving her a swipe, but they cant be to many and odd places. Any help please? as I dont want the vets, firsty as I f*****g hate them and second they are discustingly expensive, but obviously if this is serious she will be strait there. Guest Ditch_Shitter
I saw this last night (Late) and just figured it sounded like Liver Spots, mate. Now it Still sounds like Liver Spots. Ask a vet to take a look, if it concerns ye. He / she should know at a glance and the score for telling ye should be worth it to put ye mind at rest, no? PS: What ye feeding it? Guest Ditch_Shitter
Liver Spots serious? Only time I heard of them being serious was one of the first guys to die of AIDS. He woke up one morning to notice he had them. Rest is history. So is he. But no, I wouldn't suggest they're serious, in and of themselves. More likely a sign that the Dogs blood isn't what it should be though. Something it's body's filtering and trying to eject / isolate. They can fetch a rope for me, if they like, but; Dry feed and a Dog not doing ....? Take ye own angle on it. I Know what I suspect. Try asking around for Breast of Lamb, mate. It's niether an off cut nor rubbish. Still cheap as chips though. I know where ye coming from with most british " Butchers " today. Just bloody meat retailers! Over here they buy in whole, dead things from the Slaugter House on the corner and cut bits off. In UK, last I knew, they just bought joints from CGHQ and added a price ticket

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Jacko; That's bloody interesting mate, about ye Borders! I once read up about a 'syndrome' which effects some Borders and they're prone to Fitting. Can't for the life of me remember it now, but it's named after a Dog which it was basicaly diagnosed from. Now, said Dog was obviously 100% pet and I'll bet it never tasted blood in its life. Nor, I'll wager, would most - if not all - similarly effected Borders ..... Worth a run through Google? " Border Terrier Fits " ? Ye might come across some place to drop a word of wisdom in
jacko 1
HI, DID THAT A WHILE AGO DITCH , SPIKES DESEASE CAME UP , OR " CANINE EPILEPTIC CRAMPING SYNDROME " , I THINK . THEY SPEW UP AT NIGHT FOR A FEW DAYS , THEN ALL THERE MUSCLES CRAMP UP AND THEY ARCH THERE NECKS RIGHT BACK AND STAGGER ABOUT A BIT ,AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES THERE SOUND . THINGS LIKE STRESS , TO MUCH PROTEIN AND FOOD ADDATIVES , GLUTEN AND STUFF LIKE THAT BRING THEM ON . AT FIRST IT COST ME DAD A FORTUNE AT THE VETS , BUT HE GOT INTOUCH WITH SOMEONE IN USA AND THEY GAVE US ALL WE NEEDED TO KNOW FOR FREE . THE RAW DIET HAS CUT THE FITS DOWN TO ALMOST NIL . AT ONE POINT THEY HAD A COUPLE OF FITS A WEEK . OH ANOTHER THING THEY DO BEFORE A FIT IS THERE BELLYS RUMBLE FOR ENGLAND PROPER LOUD AND THEY LICK THERE NOSES AND FEET LIKE MAD . ITS PASSED ON BY PARENTS SO WE HAD THEM CASTRATED . JACKO.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Well done, Jacko! Good on ye, mate! By christ that must have frightened the living shit out of ye, when that went off? I think I'd just lose it completely if one of my Dogs started displaying symptoms like that. As ye say; " High protien levels and additives ". Dry feed! And Still they'll insist, " My Dog looks great on it! " ("Looks", I'd say). Wonder what it is in Borders that makes just them kick off with this? After all, they're an amalgam of other terriers, aren't they? And all terriers are really little more than line bred mongrels, in comparative terms. I wonder what they've locked into them? Probably never know Anyway, good to hear ye have it under control now. A feather in ye cap mate. And yet more proof of the obvious
jacko 1
HI, HOPEFULLY MY YOUNGEST BORDER WONT SHOW ANY SIGNS , HER BREEDER HAS BRED HIS OWN LINE FROM JACK PRICES STRAIN , HE WORKED HIS BORDERS AND JRT'S FOR 57 YEARS , BUT HES 75 NOW AND CANT DIG ANYMORE . Dawn B 212
CECS or Canine Epileptoid cramping syndrome is a condition that has always been confused with Epilepsy, it doesnt only affect Borders, in fact Labs are probably the worst sufferers, I have seen Labs, Borders, Jack Russells with it. The reason you are hearing more about in in Borders is that the breeders HAVE done something about it and are not burying their heads in the sand like other breeds! It is thought to be inherited but there is still a long way to go to finding a genetic marker etc.. Food does seem to play a part in it, and certain proteins seem to make it worse. A few things to consider if your dog is having "fits" or "seizures" and you doubt epilepsy. With CECS Dogs: They never lose consciousness, they remain aware but are often unable to respond to you. They go rigid, eyes bulge often, back arched, toe nails stretched out. They dont urinate or pass feaces. Epilepsy drugs will NOT help this condition, in fact they can make dogs worse. Dogs recover ok and have no lasting effects, unlike Epileptic dogs who seem disoriented etc.. You can find out more info here: http://www.borderterrier-cecs.com/ Re the forum, I think I know the one you speak of. There is NO scaremongery on there at all, its a contentious issue that may cause arguments and witch hunts, which we do not want. I would suggest that if anyone experiences what they think is CECS with their dog, whatever breed, they contact their breeder and the site I have posted, and along with their Vet discuss possible treatments for their dog.
