Too Young

Recommended Posts

On saturday the wife was asleep on the settee after being up early for work, so decided to go out with the ferrets for an hour, and decided to take my eldest son who was 4 years old yesterday.

We put the nets down and got set,,,,,

We got two rabbits and he wanted to watch me get them ready for a pie!

Whilst gutting the rabbits he never flinched an inch, and insisted on feeding the ferrets a piece of liver.

We took the rabbits to the wifes aunty again for her to make him a rabbit pie(which he keeps going on about!)

Anyway on arriving home,,,,,

The mrs was not happy with me for taking a 3 year ferreting! reckons he is too young to watch a rabbit being gutted, and was worried he will have nightmares!

And also wouldnt have it that my phone was turned off because it interferes with the ferret finder!!!

So whats peoples view?

He is a lot less likely to have nightmares about death, guts and stuff like that if its just treated as a normal part of the natural world around him. And lets face it, he was doing something with his dad so i'm sure he felt safe as houses and happy as. Don't think he will have associated anything scary with it. Sounds like you got a cracker there mate.

My son has been out with me since he was 2 years old ! cant say my mrs was over the moon but thats life she learnt to deal with it. He's 4 later this month, crawls round the house with his toy gun pretending to shoot pigeon, rabbits, chickens(pheasants) and tells his mother to "keep quiet stand still or you'll scare him away" he knows where his food comes from unlike some kids which think all food comes from the supermarket. nothing wrong with starting them young, starts them on the right track with a hobby. too many kids now days stuck infront of a bloody playstation or on a street corner causing trouble/intimidating folk.

Thanks Kay, when I look at that pic and the one below which was taken the other week and both have the same spade

it makes me realise how much he's grown in 3 years.
