had it done 2 my bitch for medical reason as she had a bad time giving birth ,took me most of this season 2 get her back ,and she still not 100% ,so my advise would be if not medical reason then no ,the only thing she lost was her fittest which as now come back ,but have 2 but alot of time and effort 2 get her back ,but she getting on now 7

As long as he's 100% sure he never wants to breed from the dog then have the op. It doesn't alter the dogs working abilities at all but as someone said they do need to rest afterwards and then be brought back to fitness again (takes less time with younger dogs).

If you're finished for the season then now is an ideal time to get it done

not sure about dogs mate but had to get my bitch spayed after she had pups the pups are 8 month now she got an infection and i had no choice, she is still not 100%fit but that could be due to me been ill and not having as much time getting her fit as i should have but her speed is still their she still got good stamina and she is still as keen if not keener at the moment

It wont make a difference to the dogs work but it is a bit fookin drastic! Lol! A bitch will only come in season once or twice a year and its easy to tell. Can she not just be seperated from the dog for a couple of weeks once or twice a year? Bring her in the house, give her to a mate or family member till her seasons over? Theres loads of options mate. Even if the dog does get to her you can get her injected to end the pregnancy.

Am in the same boat as you did the same but my bitch now coming on she 6 odds and had her out lamping few times past month and you can see her getting fitter each night.

But there in a difference between getting a dog done and a bitch.

If your not going breed from the dog then get him done will make no difference and will save a lot off shit in the future or as some one sad put up another pen or do what l do when my bitch comes in heat l send my dog around till mates for few weeks

I bred a Litter in 2004.As A Favour to my mate i gave him a Dog Pup.He then gave it to Somebody else.(A Pet Home). This dog took his First Roe at 11 months old and Continued to Wreak Havoc on the Local Deer and Fox Population Much to the Owners Dismay. It was only After the Dog Killed the Owners Bosses Pet Cat that the Owner decided to Have the Dog Castrated. It didn't Affect the Dog at All And he continued to do what he was Bred to Do.Sadly the Dog is Never off the Lead now in the Countryside where he might encounter Game.
