secretagentmole 1,701
Old style big yellow pages work well too! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
The bags of compost would work, but an expensive way of doing it. Can you get hold of some empty sacks, malt sacks from a brewery are fine, and if you have a local brewery they'll more than likely be happy to give you a few for free. Fill them up with garden earth and they're perfect (also good for growing spuds in, though not at the same time) The little "snail" pellet catchers are good too, though a bit noisy. A good earth bank is the best thing. A few old wooden sleepers is also a good way of doing it for air rifle (not good for anything more powerful though!) Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Large Paving Slab "Box". Take four paving slabs. Stand three vertically and secure into a three-walled box by hammering down 2 pairs of iron spikes per slab to act as firmly anchored, supporting guides and slide the slab in between the spikes. so it stands firm as a wall. Fill with sand or earth as a sloping earth-damper. Add the fourth slab as a roof and Voila! You have a backstop that will safely halt any air rifle pellet regardless of power. Safest thing you can get. Simon. Edited March 15, 2011 by pianoman Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
That would work very well, just have to ask the wife if I can pinch them from inside the greenhouse! Quote Link to post
RaiderBoy 19
I used to have a 2x2 plywood box with apholsterers foam inside, stop any pellet and for quite a while pretty quiet. Richard Quote Link to post

ButterWouldntMelt 0
Just recently got my first air rifle so I'm not fully 'kitted out' yet. For plinking in the garden (all I've done so far) I have salotaped some printed off targets onto an old kitchen cupbord door that my uncle asked me to dump for him. I lean this forward against the edge of a fence post. I fetch it back inside after plinking so it does'nt get wet & turn to mush. When I've got rid of my two rabbits, I'll use the hutch to set up a more permanant (rain proof) target set-up. (Quite apt I think.) lol. Quote Link to post
Alan Clark 7
I use a galvanised steel box and tape the paper target over the front of it. Quote Link to post
