gnasher16 30,118
My friends son Mickey Coveney fought on the Ricky Burns undercard saturday night so a few of us went up to give our support...he,s a good boy who,s had a tough career and unfortunately lost to the better man but thats life....what struck me was the noise and atmosphere you Scots can create....it was the Braehead arena near the airport and was only half full and very little atmosphere until Burns came out then the roof nearly came off !....certainly had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up when the flower of scotland was being sung it was great to see true passion with no nastiness.....we was treated great by some good folk and Burns of course had a good win he,s doing well i hope he continues to move forward in his career he,s a talented lad. It all went down the toilet on the way back sunday at Stoke as my mighty Hammers come unstuck against the worst football team in the league !.....but fair play to you Jocks you get behind your sportsmen and give them great support,it was impressive to see

Nice start to the pros,he signed with Frank Warren recently i believe,Frank dont normally get it wrong so the lad must have something ....must admit his opponent on the night was a dead body but thats how it is at the start, certainly had some confidence about him

k99yle 53
I wish i was there when Michael Gomez wiped the smirk off Alex Arthurs face a few years ago. Outstanding fight. Attack Fell Terrier 864
I missed it , I got an invite to go out Lamping so I thought I would catch the repeats but missed them as well . How did DeGale look?
Oweny 0
I can remember when stevie,s dad used to box out of the old transport club in Tollcross here in Edinburgh, Kenny used to work the doors just the same as his son is doing now.

How did DeGale look? Im not one to have a go about the quality of upcoming fighters opponents as i understand the route all fighters take in their early careers.....but dear me,this fella was an embarassment !....Degale didnt look great but got it done in the end, though i think either mine or your mrs could have done it quicker !....not my cup of tea Degale he,ll go far but not all the way in my opinion. darbo 4,774
thought degale did well in his win over smith but it will be intresting how he copes when put under pressure. which he will as the level of opponent goes up.

I wasn't overly convinced until he stopped Smith (Who's a pretty decent boxer on his day IMO). He certainly has talent but I'm yet to see why the Sky team are hyping him up so much. Which is why I asked how he looked. I hear George Groves is pencilled in to fight him next I like Groves I think he's got a lot of potential but I think he lacks substance. He tries all that low hands trying to be flashy and big power, but where's the basics? When the pressure's applied to him he's all over the place. I don't think he's ready for DeGale yet in all honesty and I think DeGale will make it look easy. What do you reckon?

Sky are hyping him because he is an Olympian,simple.....look how they hyped Audrey Harrison for the same reason.....the mistake he made was believing his own hype which i fear Degale could go the same way.....he,s already trying to talk like Ali and he hasnt done anything yet,he should be working on his boxing skills not his image. I dont think either of them will make it at world level though its far too early to tell of course but just a gut feeling...Degale still shows a lot of amateur traits and he simpy isnt good enough yet to be doing some of the things he tries and will be exposed in better competition if he carries that on.....although i think he will have too much for Groves.Degale is what i call a risk free fighter,he relies on speed and reflexes he reminds me of a young Herol Graham.... Degale doesnt know himself yet how he will react when under pressure as its just not the done thing these days to have gym wars and fighters are protected so much that the first time they find out if they really have the insides for it they are sitting on their arse in front of the tv cameras !....eg Khan,Harrison etc.....Groves looks a good prospect but i have my doubts about Adam Booth as a trainer....like yourself id go with Degale but who knows. Yeah I agree, I hope he (DeGale) can develop to where he can make an impact on the world scene, in fact I hope both of them can, but there's a way to go yet. I'll almost always support the home grown lads when fighting over seas against foreign opposition, so best of luck to them.
