Tomm Parr 30
Check out the topic about bull terriers and the difference between modern ones and those of 50y ago. It happens with all dogs at one time or another, all todays breeds look different to days gone by. An old neighbour of mine (died last year aged 94, he fought in Burma against the Japs - some cracking tales but that's another story...) told me about his Yorkies from the 20's and 30's: Absolute dynamos after rats and rabbits with short fur apparently! You can't really imagine it now, what with half of modern Yorkies having plaited fur and living in a posh birds' handbags. I hope that in 50y we don't see today's good working dogs (patts, plummers, lakies, etc) looking and acting different. There are loads of idiots who want a dog because of how it looks or because their pal told them they are tough; you can guarantee that it'll get worse now they've seen the terrier section at crufts too! There is even some numbnut on these forums asking for chocolate patterdales becasue they are apparently better workers!?! Bigger cash-cows more like! We have to keep the dogs out of the hands of the peddlers and yummy mummys or we'll have to start making our own new breeds like Dr Plummer did in the 60s and 70s. Look at the border terrier, 15y ago you never saw them anywhere unless you were involved in work/pest control, now they are everywhere! Before anyone freaks out, I am not anti-Border! They are cracking dogs, I just don't like the fact that a few appearances in 90's Hollywood films has made them worringly popular with the loveydoveys. Quote Link to post
