DDD 4
Bit of a strange one!! Out with the lamp this evening & hmr, had a walk over one of the farms. Now this farm has a wood on the hilltop, walked round the fields & noticed 1, yes one rabbit out, so gets down & naturally the rabbit takes the hit. The shot was taken about 150 yards from the edge of the wood, almost 90 degrees to the wood, you can imagine the noise the hmr made, even silenced. This had the effect of waking all the crows up, pigeon, whole wood basically!! Thought nothing more of it, went to pick the rabbit up, had a scan round, nothing else about. Picked the rabbit up & was walking back towards the car, got about 100 yards or so, still with the wood on my left, still with the cackling of the crows etc, THEN heard this almighty noise from behind me, over my left shoulder, i.e. from in the wood. It was a strange noise, only way I could describe it as being similar to a crows alarm call but about 10 times as loud & sharper. This had the effect of completely & I mean completely silencing the whole wood. Nothing lifting, not a wing flap, a call or anything, almost as if whatever it was scared the sh1t out of the whole wood, as well as me. All the way back to the car, still nothing on the lamp & still no noise from the wood but a strange feeling of being watched. We do occasionally get a few foxes passing through but this wasn't a pup call or a bark or anything like it, they generally don't silence a wood with it. Anyone else experienced anything similar? Going back tomorrow in daylight, unfortunately, it's a keepered wood so won't be going for a look through. Very strange!! Quote Link to post

swamp thang 16
Let us know if you ever find out for sure just what made that odd noise, DD. I wonder though, if some practical joker with a tape recorder and loud speaker could have made that racket to mess with your mind for some reason. I imagine that a recording of selected other-worldly sci-fi sound track snippets, amplified real loud at night, would do a good job of spooking the wildlife as well as whoever happened to be about at the time Quote Link to post
olib007 1
Ask one of the keepers who looks after the woods? They may have some idea! Sounds creepy, i always like having a mate when out at night if i'm on foot Quote Link to post
