Chocolatte patterdales

Recommended Posts

I have never seen a white patterdale and would not wont to because it will be crosed with jt terrier

these were bred black to black for many years ..Why would it have to be crossed with a russell??Seen many first crosses and they should if both parents are (pure) in the sense not already crossed come black or red years ago thats the colours they produced..Nowadays if you put a pat to a russell you often get russell coloured pups..So it stands to reason both parents were of x bred stock

Spot on Donny, black is and always should be the dominant colour, if you cross black over white you should get all black.

Why is everybody always assuming Russel in it if a Pat shows white spots? Lots of people use or used Bullblood in their lines.......

I never said anything about russells and IMO bull blood would be just as bad. My patts show white chests and white feet and i have pedigrees going back years before i was about and theres no bull or russell in any of it, the dogs picture that sparked all these comments IMO wasn't a patt at all but (no offence) was just a mongrel bred terrier.

Was not meant for you specificly, but this was also a point on another board a while back. Somebody placed a pic of a Patterdale pup with a white paw, and all where talking about Russel influence. Didn't know how the pup was bred at that moment, but for me the same thing came up, why always Russel? There are much more possibilitys to get white spots then only Russel inclusion. And yes, also no inclusion of foreign blood at all, as no breed is bred from scratch the way they look now including the color. You always can expect a trowback to dogs long past in their pedigree.

Putting a black dog over a white bitch can give you ANY colour. :whistling: I have seen a litter of six that had 2 whites, a choc and three blacks in it, bred from a black dog to a white bitch. Litter before had 2 choc and 3 blacks. It all depends on what genes are in the 'black' you are going to put over the white. :victory:

I have also seen, on numerous occasions blacks and chocs mated to give white pups... But i believe there has to be the white gene present on both sides for this to happen. Chances are that most terriers have a drop of 'white' in them somewhere if you look far enough back. .

Funny how everyones gone choccy mad!!:D Its only a colour lads....

Good Hunting JD :)

Hasnt it always been the same though?

The lads that want to stand out for whatever reason strive to have what no one else has?

Inferiority complex?

Then why the whites from litters of blacks ? and if you read what i put again a "true" black should always throw black when put to a white, i read it in a very boring book on genetics that i failed to get past the first few chapters of, but as it meant something to me a i took that bit in.
