ferretracer 24
At the moment im considering purchasing an airifle mainly for shooting targets but also for the odd few bunnies as some of the permission I ferret on, has asked for some shooting when me and my mate stop ferreting there for the summer we know friend who does this for us but i would like to go along as well possibly. but which one to get 177 or 22, make, model etc not to expensive but still reasonable. I think my uncle has got a old BSA meteor lurking in the back of his garage with a high powered bull spring fitted, which i dont think is leagal anymore. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Look at this thread my good ferret owning companion! First gun recommendations I have personal experience of the best value springer recommended by BAR, that being the (everybody ducks) Hatsan 60S. A nice solid built rifle, cheap and basically a clone of the lower end Webley springers. They are full power and reliably full power (unlike some of the Chinese guns, though some SMKs are very well liked). Read that and have a look. Also best place to look and find out is your local gun dealer! Find one with a good range of air rifles, some have a trial range somewhere on the premises. Try before you buy! Find one that feels right to you! There are some good bargains in the secondhand range! Pianoman will advise you HWs are good value secondhand and they are built to last. I advise a gun dealer as even with a secondhand gun you will have some sort of limited warranty, that will enable you to find out what problems there may be with the gun, though to be fair there should not be any! Ron Weasley 83
Have a look at the thread that Moley linked you too, there's some very good detail in there. Please don't listen to him regarding the Hatsan though. Quote Link to post

Go get sum rabbits Atb Scott Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Hey back off the Hatsans. BAR reckon they are a good value air rifle! So there! Not just Mole, lol! Mole is currently enjoying the AT44 experience! Edited March 11, 2011 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
I dont think it is posible to make a bsa metor go over 12 ftlbs with just a spring.I may be wrong .A to powerfull spring may make you lose power or damadge the gun for sure . Quote Link to post
Big Paul 0
BSA Lightning is not a bad gun to start with , cheap second hand and tune up nice Quote Link to post
GlenW 0
I'm agree with big Paul, BSA lightning is a great starter gun, good power and decent accuracy for a springer. I have one that I use when I feel like switching things up a bit (pcp almost feels like cheating to me at times lol). I think I payed about 180 quid for mine second hand about 3 years ago, so I'm sure you could get one for much less now. As big Paul said, they tune up easily, I put a gas ram in mine, and can highly recommend this upgrade, makes the gun much nicer to fire. Quote Link to post
