I have seen this happen during a dig, also during a mating. The dog recovered quickly and was generally a fit and healthy young dog,i think there was a large percentage of Border Terrier in it's breeding, and i know some Borders

are susceptible to epileptic fits etc;I just put it down to experience and think that was the reason. What symptons

did thbe terrier in question display?

Higgins.

he had a HARD dig on sunday and last night ,when i went to lock up the kennels and feed he dropped onto his bed and had a slight fit out for about 30 seconds then staggering around ....im guessing there is no possibility its a one off?

no other symptoms hes a normal dog , sore from the work but normal otherwise.... yis fellman no border blood either ....

I had one that fitted ocassionally, never when working though? Some other pups in the same litter did it as well so im guessing it was herditeary?

I took him to the vets once after a fairly bad fit and the vet rekoned a mild bout of distemper when young could cause fits in later life,he never had distemper to my knowledge.

Doubt it will be easy to find the cause, maybe a blood sugar level test at the vets could be worth a go?

Yes  I've seen it in terrier that were tightly bred and also in foxhounds. I believe the terriers it was a hereditary trait brought out in the in-breeding. The hounds It could not be determined if it was food, water or general conditions as the hound were not related or tightly bred. Both were determined as epileptic fits. The terriers were PTS and the hound went on a low dose of barbiturates and continued to hunt well. The hounds BTW were affected by this as 6 plus year olds the terriers were under two and like others on here were being stressed at the time.
