ferret333 747
Hello , i go ferreting quite often and i have a border collie. he is very lanky for a border collie almost like a saluki x collie. i have been playing with him in my garden with a dead rabbit a few nights a week , he loves it , he bites it and alsorts. what are the chances of him chasing a live rabbit ? p.s he is really fast , i dont think he would have any problems catching up to the rabbit. also he is around 4 years oold Quote Link to post

fallow buck 18
knew someone who ferreted with collie and terrier once, it can be done, even knew a shepherd who'd give better chase then some lurchers too come to think of it! give your dog a go with the lamp, wait til next season for ferreting mind, young uns about now all the very best with your dog mate, be interested o hear how it goes Quote Link to post
paulsmithy83 567
If he showing signs get him working could do with more working(hunting) collies out there if he does well for his breed he'll make a good stud dog as a base breed to those who like the collie x' greys as it's coming hard to find tested hunting collies there's only few about now a days Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
I used a collie for ferreting and lamping for years, but let me say one thing, your "fast" collie ain't a match for a slow lurcher so expect a lot of misses and enjoy the catches........... Quote Link to post
rolysmate 49
I"m sure you"ll catch the odd one or two on the run with him but I suspect he could make a good ferreting companion using his nose and brain to be in the right place, also as has been said he may pick a few up on the lamp I"ve seen borders used in this manner before and they can do ok Quote Link to post
