Feral Pigeons

Recommended Posts

Hi Lads,

Been on the forum for a while but not posted as i've been reading everything and taking in all the info on here

I've been asked to clear some feral pigeons from the upper floor of a mill that are damaging equipment and doing there stuff on the desks and workplaces.

The General Licence conditions have been met as proofing and scaring has proven innefective.

Now, as the mill is in the center of a town do i need to inform the Police when the shoot will take place ? or is that only when it will be outside within view of the General Public ? ( or is that only when a special licence is issued )

I'm sure i've read it somewhere but i'm probably getting mixed up with all the reading i'm doing :hmm::blink:

all the best

Bernie

Hi mate the best person to answer this is Festa.

His real name is Gary and he is a proffesional pest technician.

Try sending him a PM buddy as I know he as used his rifle for pigeon work before.

My only suggestion would be to give the police a tinkle just out of respect to give them a heads up anyway buddy.

The rest of your questions I don't have the 100 % in stone answers.

As a full time pest controller i get many requests to remove ferals from food stores, warehouses etc. ALWAYS ALWAYS notify the local police of your intended activities (time on and off site etc). Jo public hearing shooting or any pigeon lovers (feeders) will only be too keen to inform the police and if they turn up to investigate they won't be best pleased. As a matter of courtesy I give the incident room a call to let them know when i have left site as well.............they will give you a reference number to quote if a police officer challenges you.

Hope this helps a bit.

Of course, there's no reason why you HAVE to inform them, it's mainly to prevent them wasting their time (and it's never pleasant getting a close up view of the hole in the end of an MP5!)

If you're in a building, how will anyone know you are there?

I'm not saying don't do it, I find it's always helpful to keep on the good side of the police whenever possible, and this is a no lose situation, but for the sake of completeness I wouldn't want anyone to think it was a legal requirement, as there might be times when contacting them is NOT a good idea (I can't think of any right now but there probably are!)

I have been following this advice on my new permissions! I have always found the local police tobe very helpful and actually a damned good chuckle when getting a permission, one operator asked me why I was doing this and I explained about my allergy to Heckler and Kock semi automatics, over playful german shepherds, low flying helicopters and policemen scaring the bunnies, she laughed and said they had an incident a couple of months ago when someone had not told them, was reported and was most dischuffed when a car came over to where he was shooting and used the loudhailer to summon him! His fault for not telling them,m he got the long lecture about reporting where he was going etc etc and also about how much this cost the police and how much it would cost him to phone it!

Not the lads fault though! As it is not required before you go shooting.
