CharlieT 32
Guidelines suggest .243 Quote Link to post
quicksilver 0
I have shot them with 223 60gr Vmax and they are dead before they hit the ground. But I am in n Ireland not sure what welsh legislation dictates Edited March 8, 2011 by quicksilver Quote Link to post
RicW 67
England and Wales .243 min 1700 ft.lbs ME. As for deer. Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Actually, I'm pretty sure there is no LEGALLY DEFINED minimum calibre, bullet weight or ME for them. There are recommendations, but nothing enshrined in law. I'd say that you'd be legal shooting one with a .22 CF, and a .243 will definitely deck one quite happily. Quote Link to post

That is why I said HO guidelines state .243. Try getting a .22C/F conditioned for goats as you would only be legal if your rifle conditions include goats and I've yet to find a firearms manager who will do so. Quote Link to post
markha 99
Rob give Peter Childs a ring, he is your FEO? Im sure he can give you the definitive answer on behalf of NWP. As others have said, trying to get the goat condition on your license for culling goats in the national park, as thats where most of them are, Beddgelert and some in Llanberis, the odd group outside Bethesda, will be difficult as the culling is either done by Forestry Commission shooters or local qualified pest control companies. All the best with it though mate. Iawn wah, Diolch Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Not true Charlie. I have the "any other legal quarry" condition, so if I had a .22cf (which I don't) with that condition it would be perfectly legal to shoot them with it. I'd happily take them with my .243, even though it is "conditioned" for deer. Quote Link to post
markha 99
Perhaps a call to those in charge may see you offered work in the next cull???? See the last paragraph. http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/tm_headline=38-animals-shot-as-council-tackles--nuisance-&method=full&objectid=18090923&siteid=50142-name_page.html Quote Link to post

I can imagine the phone call now. "Hello, is that the police firearms licencing department? Hi, yes, I'd like to check a piece of land to see if it's cleared" "Yes sir, and what's the address?" "Snowdonia" "And where abouts in Snowdonia?" "No, the whole of Snowdonia!" big clunk as firearms licencing bod falls off chair. I might send them my CV actually! Quote Link to post
markha 99
Thing is, we have that many astute farmers up here, that play at being dumb, but are all very bright, you could well get away with that phone call! Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
They are pretty soft mate – I recon a 12ft lb airgun would put one on the floor... a .222 / .223 throwing 50 grainers would be ideal although the minimum the plod would officially ‘approve’ would probably be a .243. If you’re going to an estate I’d just check with them encase there are any ‘house rules’. Good luck mate – Got to say I was surprised how much I enjoyed stalking goats - A mate on the site and I are getting some big old billies scored in the next couple of weeks that we took in Ayr in January. Take a peg for your nose though  Quote Link to post
markha 99
Local, I know what you mean about the musky smell, we can smell them from miles away in the mountains  Quote Link to post
