lawrence 657
lurcher bitch hit by a car yesterday resulting in a compound fracture on her left front leg, just above the wrist, anyone any experience of similar imjuries? getting steel pins put in tomorrow, anychance of a full recovery? or is her working life finished? she's a daytime moocher/ferreting dog so not under strain as a lamping / coursing dog, fingers crossed. tubba 38
Should be fine mate, my pedigree whippet broke both his front legs before he was 18 months old, One of which was a compound fracture . He still comes mooching and ferreting with me and runs round like a loon when with the other dogs, just make sure she gets plenty of rest and she should be fine Edited March 8, 2011 by tubba

sandymere 8,263
If the wrist joint itself isn't involved then there is every chance of a very good recovery.

Hope she makes a good recovery mate. For future reference - who do you recommend as a greyhound vet? (PM if you prefer).
lawrence 657
i appreciate the feedback lads, i feel a bit more optimistic now. the break is up above the wrist and looked very clean in the xray to my uneducated eye. she's in with Murray & Scullion in Lurgan. lawrence 657
been rubbing some warm comfrey paste into her leg when changing dressings, been told its worked wonders by those wiser than me, another name for comfrey was knitbone, so worth a try.
