Recommended Posts

yeah was gonna take him tomorrow but it doesnt seem to be bothering him, and to be honest could do without the bill (before i get loads of shit i aint afraid to spend on the dog he's worth it) and they dont much like working dogs it seems, always ask lots of questions.

I have nothing against a vet when its warranted but a broken friggin nail does not warrant a trip to the vets. If you rip your finger nail off do you run off to the doctor? Its a f****n dog for Christ's sake. They are 5x rougher than you are so dont worry so much about them.

hi mate has the dogs toe swollen up ?my dog broke the underside of his nail and exposed some of the quick he was fine for the first couple of days but then went lame on that leg, i took him to the vet and was given a ten day script of rimifin and amoxycillin £36 bill and im not rich, i think you need to weigh up how bad it is as to wether you go to the vets, my friend of here bullmastiffs dog ripped a nail off and he just bathed the foot rested the dog for 6 weeks+ like others have suggested to you, i think sometimes its easier when the whole nail comes off rather than leaving a weakened nail, just keep an eye on it and do whats been suggested unless he goes lame on that foot you should be fine atb matt

thats what i reckon mate, people think theyre kids and wrap them up too much, just wouldnt want to risk any lasting damage or excessive pain for the dog and would get him to vts as soon as if it looks/gets worse.

thanks everyone

your right to be cautious about the vet mate a lot dont like people who work dogs though their happy to take your money before they grass you in  its a common injury specially running on plough and winter wheat like dan says they are tough critters it shouldnt take too long to heal just keep it clean and dry

Doesn't look like he exposed the quick or broke it at the nail bed (from the pics what i can see).

Just keep it clean and it should heal and grow out on it's own. Limited excercise on lead to give it a chance to heal and not cause more damage atb Shazza

the best pic i could get but its almost the whole nail gone(nail was white like one next to it), its a scab underneath with just a tiny bit of nail under the start of the hair on his toe, he yelps whenver i touch it too much, its nice and dry though no sign of infection.
