kinderbeano 13
resently heard of a land owner who had a big problem with rabbits.in an attempt to "solve" the problem he bought 15 or so ferrets and just released them ,i just find this wrong on so many levels, obviously the crulty to the domestic ferrets being released but this is how problems accour similar to the mink problem.has anyone got any experience or this or heard of it happening eslewhere?.i was going to offer to ferret the area for the man but i wouldnt trust puting my jills to ground with that many feral animals around.needless to say the rabbit problem is still as bad as it ever was. kinderbeano 13
why don't you go an knock on the door ask if you can clear the rabbit's for him he can only say no.. if he say's yes you'll have yourself a bit of permission. atb the lands about 2 hours drive away from me so it wudnt be that easy,im finished ferreting for the year now anyway ......apparently the ferrets have been hanging round the sheds stealing the cats and dogs food and rooting in bins..im more curious about how often this happens and how it effects the wildlife,i cant see the domestic ferrets doing too well but theres always a chance.there are places were feral ferrets are quite common afterall. kevin from bristol 95
loads of farmers do this all the time clears the problem up once a year but the ferrets dont last long with predators and the weather so it works all round apart for the ferrets but farmers dont give a f**k about that ,i spose in truth they could have a worse life that being released and living wild instead of being stampo kick or worse in the hands of an arsehole unfed and unhappy its a hard one to answer really Edited March 8, 2011 by kevin from bristol Quote Link to post
cunninghamb 2
Heard it, seen it all before. IMHO ferrets once lost/escaped if working do not take long at all to become totally wild, it is after all their natural instinct. Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,248
it dont work , never has,,, they tried it in new zealand,,, they just got a ferral problem now,,, and ferrets eating kiwi eggs the other thing they forget is,,, a hole 3-4 lb bunny,,, will feed a 2lb ferret for a hole week. , so in efect they just dont kill enough Quote Link to post
alan626 305
ferrits wont survive i found a friends ferrit he lost about 3 weeks ago it was in its final days only i found it Quote Link to post
theferreter 311
abosoulty pointless realeasing that many ferrets they will kill a few but it wont sort out the problem they will just be chasing them from sett to sett and as some body already mentioned most of them will become fox food or a big male mink will have the time of his life breeding with all the jills that the farmers realeased then hes gona have a bigger problem chicken getting killed left wright and centre Quote Link to post
