A mixed day's shooting with Andyfr1968 on my permission!

Recommended Posts

excellent write up and pictures simon, hope andy's got his pellet issues sorted now!

nice to see some other guys dont go by bag size when they rate a days enjoyment-just being able to be out in beautiful countryside with or without good company(or in my case, a deranged jack russell) is what its all about for me,anything above this is bonus!!

cheers lads,

Phew where to start. Well, it's monday and the best cure for the monday blues is to go shooting! So, with Andy free for the afternoon and the sunlight breaking the overcast, we met up at mine to go

Editied cos some damned fool used the link bit not the photo bit...

Hi, lads.

Firstly, I'd like to apologise for posting a photo of myself on a public forum, it was late when I sent the pics to Mr Mole (thanks, dude  ) and I'd had a tipple or two so common sence didn't pervail.... :icon_redface: I hope I've not put anyone off their food

The pics don't do this wood justice, it really is beautiful and you do get a feel for how steep the valley is, even though where we were was one of the flatter bits. Really!!

After the cock-up with my ammo. I really wasn't expecting to get a shot off but I was just happy to be there. I'd got a 15 yard maximum range in mind just in case though as they were within around an inch at that distance. I saw 6 or 7 woodies circleing above me eyeing up the trees by me, I slowly raised the 90 just in case when they decided to land in the same tree I was hideing under, I lined up on the nearest, and fired only to collect a twig I didn't see through the scope, ARSE!!! It was only about 12 yards from where I was sitting. Ah well, next time.

A little after that a rabbit cought my eye about 40 yards away, well out of my safe range. I raised the 90 anyway and watched bugs through the scope. After a while bugs steadily made his way ove towards me and once within my 15 yard range I nailed fluffy arse through the bonce :toast: I made a mental note of where he was so as I could pick him up on the way out.

The light failed fast and I saw Simon aproaching through the wood so I set off to meet him. Mistake!! Not knowing the ground so well, I lost the spot where bugs had gone to bunny heaven and I'd skillfully left the torch in the car about half a mile away :icon_redface:

Back then to Simon's for a chat, a cuppa and a look at the dodgy ammo. Looking at the skirts it seems that they've been stamped off center, so it's no wonder they were flying all over the place. I used the Dynamics for about 3 years now and they've been faultless before, hey ho, I've got some Baracudas somewhere and I know it shoots very well with them so I'll use them in the mean time.

Big thanks for all the kind comments, fellas and another HUGE thanks to Simon for a days shooting, well missing in my case!!

Cheers

Cheers Davy. I can only apologise for any impairment to the enjoyment of your delicious roast Squirrel mate.

Actually I must compliment you for trying this out. Bravo brave food warrior! What did it taste like?

Cheers again mate.

Emo Phillips and Andy look alike...Nope. Sorry moley I can't see the resemblance.

I'm thinking of having another foray into the woods this afternoon with the HW77 and, depending on how the breeze runs, cover the warrens near or around the spot Andy was positioned. A zero for shooting upslope should see me alright.

That's if I don't end up sliding down into the river!

simon, if you haven't tried squirrel out i recommend it buddy-it's very similar to duck but not as fatty mate.

best served fried, shredded in wraps with hoi sin/plum sauce- absolutely bang on delicious, my favourite edible vermin! i prefer it to rabbit anyday

Serve with thin strips of spring onion and cucumber as well for authentic Chinese Crispy Roast Squirrel, sounds damned nice to me!

Bloody hell, that sounds right tasty! I would never have though squirrel would taste that nice. I love Peking Duck and Mandarin pancakes with spring onions, cucumbers and Hoi Sin sauce too!
