Airborne9 4
Hi all, just had a phone call off a friend of mine, who has rats coming in to her offices ! Shes had some guys out who put poison down which was killing the rats however they were then dieing in the wall cavities and roof space creating a bad smell which the staff arnt happy with as you could imagine. Shes asked me if i know of a solution, apparently there is a poison out there that once the rats are dead it then mummifies them eliminating all the smell. has anyone heard of this kit if so what's it called and any ideas who stocks it ??? many thanks Quote Link to post

randombadger 26
has anyone heard of this kit if so what's it called and any ideas who stocks it ??? The product she has heard of is probably 'Eradibait'. However it is not a poison, as far as I know it is literally just dehydrated corn husks. The theory is that your rat scoffs a stomach full of the stuff which it can't digest and which is so dry that it then absorbs a large amount of moisture inside the rat causing severe dehydration and death. See: http://www.eradibait.com/ They claim that this dehydration has an effect on the carcass that is 'similar to mummification' Personally I find the explanation unconvincing, and have severe doubts that A) the rats would eat enough to be fatal, that it would actually be fatal in many instances anyway c) that the carcass would be dry enough not to smell. But if you think it sounds convincing feel free to try it. Strikes me as one of those magic fairy dust products that is just too good to be true, but makes organic hippies feel better for using it. As for who stocks it, well there is an old woman in the cottage by the lane who swaps magic beans for cows, I think she sells it too. Quote Link to post
miller 18
The poison you are looking for with the a mummifying agent inside is called (RATIMOR FRESH BAIT)A highly attractive pasta bait with excellent palatability for rodents. Edited March 8, 2011 by miller Quote Link to post
goshawking719 492
As above Ratimor fresh bait will be the product in question, for professional use only though- but the mummifying agent actually does work! Just make sure no regular baits are left down. Why not try trapping instead? Quote Link to post

Yep agree with that! I would vouch for Rattimore products every time. Problem is the guys doing the job probably aren't pro pesties and rattimor is a pro product. Quote Link to post

I believe a similar product was marketed odd years ago as a slimming aid . When eaten the stuff absorbs moisture from the system causing bloating ,dehydration and death in rodents.Whilst the skinny ladies of the 1920's made do with a bellyfull of a similar filling but nutritionally useless cellulose product that enabled them to enter dance marathons and fit into little flappy dresses . Bet they farted a lot though !. I'm not saying it is totally useless as a rat bait under ideal conditions such as when it is the only food available .However , the last time I used it the rats took it back as nesting material ! As for the smell of dead rats. Apart from mummifying agents there are products that do a fair job of absorbing the worst of the smell. Edited March 9, 2011 by comanche Quote Link to post
