rob190364 2,594
ANY TIPS ON KEEPING FERRETS A BIT MORE STEADY IF YOU HAVE TOO CLIP CLAWS TRYD A FEW THINGS, WHEN IN SLEEP A BIT STEADIER FOR A WHILE CHEERS DABBER when sitting down lie them on their back on your legs, a bit of olive oil or cooking oil on the belly and you have two hands to clip their claws I hold mine as normal and then hold their front legs between your two middle fingers to clip their claws, it's easy to do as long as you're gripping their front legs with your fingers properly. Then do the back legs when they're eating an egg. Handling ferrets is definitely something that gets easier the longer you have them, nasty ferrets are tricky to handle but they usually get used to you within a week or two of handling them every day. If you rub a bit of spit on the back of one hand and hold them with the other and let them lick it off it gets them used to your scent and they can't bite the back of your hand as long as you hold a tight fist. JPTfellterrier 65
thanks rob, shall do that, they are really tame and seem to want to get on my shoulder all the time . might sound daft but I am a bit scared of hurting/offending them in some way and making them bite.... was shown this morning how to pick them up and they really wernt bothered at all "ouch" as ive named her is a little more scrambly than the other. Just boiled a egg to feed them and have put a tennis ball in there aswell to give them somthing to do. Is it normal for them to drink alot in the morning? When i wake them up for there breakfast they seem to drink alot before they have even had anything to eat Quote Link to post

When i wake them up for there breakfast they seem to drink alot before they have even had anything to eat they usually prefer raw eggs to boiled to be honest, try them with that. Don't give them too many eggs in a week either, I don't give mine any more than 2 or 3 a week between the two of them. I'd take the tennis ball out aswell if I were you just in case they chew bits of rubber off and swallow it. I wouldn't worry about hurting them too much, they're tough little critters, you'd have to be pretty rough with them or be doing it on purpose to hurt them. Quote Link to post
JPTfellterrier 65
ah right, well they have the boiled egg in there at the minute, having a great time rolling it about and sniffing it. Shall take the tennis ball out aswell. The ladie i got them off said she used to put them in a rabbit run (or somthing similar) when it was nice, does anyone else do this? Would be a bit worried about them escaping Quote Link to post

Needs to be somthing that can be put out the way as i have back problems so would struggle to maintain a large garden well whatever you make will have to be 100 % secure the only type construction i can think of is a wooden frame & weld meshed sides & top that could be screwed rather than nailed so it can be flattened but in reality you really cant leave them coped in a hutch for weeks at a time .. they need a lot of interesting things to explore & unless you have the mother off all hutches you do need to let them out for a run round Quote Link to post
JPTfellterrier 65
i used to have a run where it folded flat when the top was off, looking to make somthing like that. I shall come up with somthing, you never know i might be able to have a flashy ferret court one day, that would be awsome. I agree they are so clever (although very lazy), might try and make somthing these weekend or atleast start. Is there a list anywere of wood that you can use in the run, was thinking of adding a log or somthing for them to play on/in Quote Link to post
