dave1372 83
Headed out tonight by myself for a mooch down at the farm to see if I could catch up with the eyes I had seen last week. When I flicked the lamp round onto the first couple of hills I caught a pair of eyes up by the rough ground at the base of the hill about 400 yards away, so I turned the lamp off and start to make my way across the field towards the bottom of the hill and the rough ground. Once I was within 150 yards I grabbed my 22-250 and flicked on the NV but the fox got spooked and made off into the rushes and after waiting 15 minutes to see if it would reappear I had to admit defeat. I decided to head in the opposite direction and up the hill hoping to catch up with it later on. After flicking the lamp round the other side of the hill a few times and some calling I still having no luck. Next I headed up to the top of the hill and flicked the lamp down into the valley and still no joy, then just as I was thinking of calling it a night the lamp caught some eyes on the other side of the valley. I had a look with the NV and could see the fox a fair distance away. By now the fox was looking my way and I was expecting it to bolt but it started to go back about its business so I watched it for a few seconds, then took my shot and heard the bullet hit the fox hard. It thrashed about for a few seconds, then rolled a few times down the hill and stopped moving. I paced it out at 260 yards (but that was down and then back up the other side) so I will have to range it next time I am out in the daytime: I could see the fox had been starting to feed on a ewe carcass..... I wish the farmer would have told me about it, could have save me an hour and a half of walking :wallbash: Quote Link to post

dave1372 83
Nice going again Dave. and a few less hungry mouths about later in the year! Cheers Kenny, the farmer is wanting rid of as many foxes as possible before lambing and although a few people on here will moan that you shouldn't shoot pregnant vixens well, I doubt the farmer would agree ! Hows your foxing coming along? Quote Link to post
