Spoke to a keeper friend other day about ratting. Yes, we got rats he said. Went to have a look, holes and runs everywhere. Was only allowed to take a couple of people with me so couldn't take the whole team.

Tyla, Blackstaff, his boy Bill and myself with 6 terriers made up the crew.

Arrived, saw the holes, saw the runs and thought" faark, this is gonna be a BIG day" Huh, yeah right!

Smoker worked fine, rats would not bolt!

Thought well tis a bit exposed here on the track, try in the maize plot! Good idea but didnt work out, the buggers would not bolt.

Reduced to digging where the terriers marked. That worked ok, averaged 1 rat every 30 minutes!!I had looked at a grassy bank which was riddled with holes when I went to see the place. Originaly I thought leave that until the maize is swiped off but as the rats wouldn't bolt from the holes in the maize we decided to tackle the bank today.

Had a few bolt but the setts were so big the smoke couldnt get thro all the runs.

Decided the thing to do was just smoke where the dogs marked. This worked up to a point and we did catch a few but nothing like we thought we were going to get.

Ended the day with a rat throwing contest (how sad is that?) which Blackstaff won.

Drove down to the keeper's house and saw a buzzard and a red kite, which made my day.

Blackstaff took about 2,000.000 pictures with his new camera so hopefully he will add a pictorial record of the day.

It was a good day but not the best bag. I've never seen anywhere so infested, i think the warrens were just so big they were able to keep runnning from the smoke without ever having to bolt.

Thanks for the invite herdwick and hurry up with the pics Blackstaff!

Thanks to Herdwick for a really enjoyable day out :signthankspin: The boy and myself had a good day, the weather was kind and the company was amusing to say the least  the bag not so good but theres always next time. You also forgot to mention about my ' offroader ' that went everywhere that your Hilux did :search: ( Thanks goes to X38 for the beauty dog bus, shes a cracker thank you :good: ) Or that it was actually Bill that won the rat throwing distance contest ( my fault for underestimation on his throwing techique :icon_eek: )he was the only contestant in that comp. I won the ' Rat up the wall ' instead of ' penny up the wall ' :toast: with Tyla 2nd, Herdwick 3rd and little Bill 4th. Too many funny things to mention, thanks you 2 :notworthy:

Tyla - We need to start this tradition thing a bit better Mrs B said :whistling: . Maybe some eggs into the deal would be great as she loves baking, the results could be coming out with us in the lunch bag

I did take a few pics over the weekend to say the least, 970+ on sat, 400+ sunday :icon_eek: Herdwick also took a few on my camera :whistling: but said he didn't like it as it as too heavy. He asked that when he presses the button and it goes click click click click click click does that mean its a picture for every click ? I said yes knowing i had to sort them when i got round to it :D

Anyways thanks again, look forward to the next day out  Heres the pics of our day,I did aim to take action shots of the day but the best laid plans and that :D Hope you like them

Good pics Blackstaff. You do get carried away when you get going with the heavyweight camera dont you

Tyla, your blue hat is in my kitchen.

Did think about putting it on ebay but then thought I probably wouldnt get any bids on it.

Can make sunday if you want to have another go but only the morning as I'm working.
