Guest smoothrun
Thats not very sporting is it? 2 dogs chasing a rabbit in the desert. Where is the rabbit going to go? its got no chance has it. People romanticise these arabian salukis coursing out there but every video i have seen they look shit just like every other pure saluki. Why do people cross the saluki to make a lurcher? Its simple to make a Superior dog. Quote Link to post

blando 0
you have to remember its 10 times hotter there, most people dont even run there dogs when its a hot night never mind in desert temps. Quote Link to post
staffy-1 0
They seem to be hares, even though them dogs are not the fastest they are stamina machines Quote Link to post
leec 132
try it before you knock it how many hares you killed in the desert in that kind of heat. salukis useless mmm like to see alot of other crosses fare so well out there back to that old saying [horses for coarses] Quote Link to post
rabbit slayer 22
Im not overly keen on salukis crosses their a beatifull dog and i admit their stamina is outstanding, but the few i have been out with just ignore you when you call them and just wont listen whilst off the lead. Not saying their all like that just the ones ive seen, suppose its all down to training though. Quote Link to post
chartpolski 23,264
Hi, Smoothrun, I lived in the middle east for 26 yrs, and owned and run a beduin bred saluki for 17 years. He would take anything from rat to Pariah, (desert dog). Lets not forget the saluki is running a desert hare on it's own ground, sand, shale. cactus and scub brush at tempratures up to 140f. Salukis are not out right speed machines but have fantastic staying power, exactly whats needed in the desert. I doubt any of our lurcher types could do the same. Obviously we cross salukis with greyhounds to try and get the best of both worlds, speed and stamina. Cheers. Edited January 30, 2007 by chartpolski Quote Link to post
