He had a great dog that made him a force in coursing and then breed a few more to boot so it werent a fluke. only if youv run such hares on such land can you understand what that dog did there. that hare would have made all but the best of coursing dogs wilt there. The 1,2,3 dog also herd him called the 21 grand dog because marcus ment to have turned that down for him once but the only thing lucky about him was hes name. one of the greats. Lucky is the best male dog I have seen run hares. Those who imagine he could only catch on big land should see the videos where he kills in horse paddocks ,and golf courses,he was also good in cover ,TH comments on him running a hare in and out of a hedge," he's still on it, can they not get away from this dog ? " I have a 9 year old out of him who could box hares, but sadly he was not as good as his father ,but then very, very ,few were. It's a pity agenda driven crabbers have to post on a thread ,trying to tear down a great animal like Lucky . Edited March 8, 2011 by inan 2 Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,164
My mate has a bitch out of lucky which was a good hare killer, but she was also a very game bitch. She would find her own game and would take all quarry. I don't know is this was a trait from lucky or her dam? Quote Link to post

I don't know is this was a trait from lucky or her dam? lucky stuff like most coursing dogs can hunt up find catch and take all game.the best all rounders i have seen are bred from modern coursing lines without any non saluki bred dogs in their make up for generations ,but those old fashioned lurcher qualities keep coming through Quote Link to post

salucky 12
well take nothing away from the dog, or the Hare, any dog that is capable of taking 3 out of 3 is a very good annimal, and of course the land he was running on big open land, a dogs paradise, but lads what you are missing, when you are running, on average 15 to 20 acre fields, is again another skill, the dog has to be up, to them, and work the Hare, they do not have time or space, waiting for the Hare to make a mistake, the dog has to force that, when you see a realy good dog behind a Hare, he gets up there, turns the hare, back in again, but this time he gets right down to it, working the Hare all the time, you see the dog working from his shoulders, the Hare can not turn bang its over, TAKE NOTHING AWAY FROM lUCKY,HE DONE HIS JOB AND DONE IT WELL, and when you have a good dog, he can do it on Fen, or field,or even a cabbage patch, next to Heathrow airport, when we were doing the M4 at Slough, near Colnebrooke, long before computers were invented, in 1961, we had freedom to course, A dog I had then was just a collie greyhound with Cotton kings, Blood running through his veins, bred by accident, in those days I thought my dog was a good Handy dog, nothing more, where are these good dogs in scotchland.lets hear of these so called dogs.
