baw 4,360
Stone walled feilds are easy to lamp, if you know where the hares are heading.. I think if you know your ground well you can narrow the hares chances right down.. EXACTLY Reading these threads it strikes me just how many people don't have or never have had field craft. I think a lot of people get a dog, lamp and slip lead and they are hunters..... I've lamped hares many moons ago but I've grown up now Quote Link to post
paulsmithy83 567
The woman isa prick check her old posts you dick Look pal unless you can answer the questions posted and reply with an answer that can be backed up,with proof/reasoning ,then piss off and go play with the cars on the motorway, cos your`e not helping. Coming from you, your last two post have just been bitching and not exactly answering the questions in the topic so your just as much as a nob you hipper crit and to the topic my answer is I have an all right dog here at the mo that can do a reasonable amount preban of course as prob many owners on here have but being honest my old timer in her prime was my best bitch I ever owned on them. Think she was my one in a life time kinda bitch, not being biased haha Quote Link to post
WILF 46,786
What is meant by numbers?.......1, 5, 20? On some of my permission you will easily see 50 hares in a night......how many could a fully fit dog take on good size fields? The question means nothing, because they wont get the same law for a start under lamplight and theres only so many any dog could run in any case. Quote Link to post

Giro 2,648
wilf its lamping I dont give rabbits law so i would not have given hares law pre ban... Lamping is about catching gear to me.. If did go out daytime pre ban I was happy to see me dog miss if it had been a good course.. because where i went dogs would not catch a hare off a long slip... folk do things differently, I used to hunt fell ground hares where hunted up not like big fenn ground where you can spot a hare.. Its down to preference people you not think there chosen sport is superior to the next mans cause often its not.. Edited March 7, 2011 by Giro Quote Link to post

Sorry matey, you misunderstood me, I wasnt saying that one thing is superior to the other. I have absolutely no problem with taking hares on the lamp, if your out on a trip and it pops up in the beam then lets have a run is the way I look at it. What I am saying is, on some of the fields in my part of the country you would totally exaust a dog after 5 runs wether you give it law or lamplight or whatever......which imho means that the question means nothing. As I said, I could take you places where you could run 50 if you wanted to, but you couldnt because the dog would be long finished by number 5 or 6. As you know, a big strong hare aint no rabbit, lamp or no lamp Quote Link to post

Its down to preference people you not think there chosen sport is superior to the next mans cause often its not.. the way i now look at it is a hare id the ultimate test for a dog and to see it being dazzled and put off by a lamp and caught on the first turn gives me a horrible feeling as every one knows in the day time it shows its true glory. my rabbiting dog has caught that many on the lamp..and hearing the storys and watching the top coursing dogs running hares it now makes me feel sick to lamp them. will rarely do it now if theres plenty of rabbits about. i know sometimes hares give a cracking run and take piss out of the dogs on the lamp, but the amount my rabbiting dog has caught so far has put me off. i have got a saluki grey pup now 8 month and next season i will be running them properly. DOVEY182009 12
Most winter hares on big land are hard to keep on the beam, I would hav thought even if ur running a seasond dog that takes em regular by day. Saw a few make my young dog look poor [bANNED TEXT] a week before he was hamering thm with eyes shut. All pre ban. Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
I've had a few dogs capable of numbers although most struggled with algebra......... Quote Link to post
Rain 232
I slip on hares at night as far as i do in the day and if it turns out a good run it does.and if not onto the next one. The hares here if someone thinks they could come down and catch 6 let alone double figures then hats off and I will stand corrected until then I would say that the hare is still the ultimate quarry night and day Quote Link to post
