terrierjohn 49
i've had a couple of those fish before pet shops sell them as hammerhead dolphin sharks i had one at 18 inch long and the other was 15 inch long eat anything that fits in there mouths mine ate goldfish and almost everything else in my tank killed a couple of big oscars aswell
Cold Ethyl 63
I could believe that these are very tame and not easy spokked for pangasius well unless your moving them from a box to a tank LMAO i was like a drowned rat 3 of us and it still took nearly an hour by feck can they fight. Theyre so calm and chilled ive only ever had the smaller types never seen them this big but they can get to 3 feet long and their sub species 9 foot long Theyre farmed in china like salmon in think populations cos they dont need a lot of oxygen apparently.Poor guys have been moved around and not kept very well till they guy that brought them here got hold of them.I am feeding a mix of pond sticks flake food and blood work etc just now.Cos im not sure totally whats best for a fish this big lol. JPTfellterrier 65
20 inches and still have alot of growing to do. These are what are called in the trade as "tank busters" pretty much unless you have the sealife centre in your house they will outgrow any tank. Your knife fish is also a tank buster
Cold Ethyl 63
I intend to get bigger ive justified it as the fish outgrow the tank its a good excuse to get a bigger one lmao the one i have already is massive as it is. I dont do normal tanks I have a custom made really heavy thick glass tank custom made and they wont burst this one in a hurry theyre not mental like most of them ive seen considering the high traffic in here theyre super chilled
Cold Ethyl 63
Might even invest in a pond when i move as i know a lot of the lads on the forums had this type of set up for their mature ones
terrierjohn 49
they will only grow as big as the tank will allow them to i fed mine on blood worm and goldfish and they ate any other small fish in my tank jpt- its oscars that are known as the tank busters as they will very often ram into the glass and when they get into fights with each other will put your heart in your mouth and make you want to get the plugs out the way and get the towels ready lol i went through 2 tanks due to oscars breaking them but the pegansius/dolphin shark whatever you know them as dont ram the tank they just cruise along from left to right and so on all day a very nice fish to have in your tank i've tried getting more but the pet shops cant get any or so they tell me

Oscars arn't tank busters. As said above the phrase refers to the fact that they grow huge and will outgrow most fish tanks (you would looking at somthing atleast 10 foot for the fish you have) pegansius also live in shoals in the wild (I am a aquatics specialist who specialises in water chemistry and fresh water biology if you are wondering) how big is your tank cold ethyl? Cold Ethyl 63
Read a lot about them and they dont live in shoals when they mature only as youngsters there were 3 but one didnt make the tank escape very well and had to be dealt with appropriately Terrier john Its a mate of mine that gets them if your looking for them he knows a few places to aqquire them very cheap as well.I had oscars in the past and never ever again one used to go for me and the other used to jump at the lid at feeding time or if they thought you were feeding them they fought and rammed the glass never broke the tank and it was because of them i will only ever have custom plate glass tanksthe glass on this big tank theyre in is really thick about 3 cms thick infact .the tanks only about 4 and half feet but its deeper than most would need to measure it to be honest. They look happy enough and like they have more than enough room but then theyre used to a lot smaller I seen their old tank and i wouldnt have had goldfish in it it was tiny thin glass typical cheap crap.My tank cost me more cos of the thickness of the glass and the upkeep but worth it to know your not waking up floating across the house lol. Cold Ethyl 63
So whats the best feeding for them then in those who have thems opinion ive just fed what i was told theyre used to and i added the bloodworm cos my fish like that and prawns.theyre not overly keen on the pondsticks they eat the other stuff without fuss but being so big id imagine they need a decent diet
Richie10 345
A 4ft tank isn't big enough and they won't grow as big as the tank will let them. I had a 7ft x 3ft x 2.5ft, I wouldn't had these flippers, they are a pain in the bottom. Alot better fish out there.
Cold Ethyl 63
Who said 4 foot? I dont mind them these seem quite peaceful and calm compared to the ones ive seen in mates tanks or on forums. From what ive read if you dont mess them about theyre fine
terrierjohn 49
i'll defo be looking for a couple of them there not the prettiest of fish you can put in your tank but theres something about them that draws me to them i tried to breed my last ones but i think they were the same sex so i bred convict cychlids instead untill we moved house and the terrier ate them out the transporting tank lol
