dazlw 1
Just been reading bobslurchers post on his new dog and his query as to whats in his dog (fine looking one aswell) and it got me thinking about the DNA kit you can now buy.just wondering if anyone has used one and if so where they surprised in what they found in there dog? Also the ,if i dare question it , the authenticity of breeders claims as to which lines are in there dogs? Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
i think dna dog data base would be good for lost and stolen dogs also breeding and traceable history of breeding Quote Link to post
lamping lurchers 34
wouldnt of thought it will tell you all the dogs in there just if yours is the sire and damn Quote Link to post
rocky1 942
would that just tell who sired the dogs ,not the actually lines or breed , Quote Link to post
rocky1 942
lamping lurchers you must have read my mind ,we posted exactly the same time with the same post Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
A DNA test is only any sense if you have something to compare it to so you would need to test the sire the dam and the pup to prove just the parentage to get any provenance for the line it would mean testing every dog in the line right back to dogs that are in all honesty probably dead now. TOMO 26,468
i have been told by a mate,, that the dna test can tell the exact persentages of the difrent breeds within that dog,, so in theroy if you have a bitsa type lurcher it can tell all the difrent breeds. my mate,,, has a mate with a plummer lurcher,,, he had this test done,,, and it came back that there was australian collie in there,,,, but lets be honest,, provided your lurcher does what you want, does it matter,,,, and i bet most pedigree dogs have other bits in there if they checked 1 Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
http://www.wisdompanel.co.uk/?gclid=CN2PvI7KtKcCFYFB4QodrAzp-A they will check the breeds within your dog but obviously this does not narrow it to exact parents/lineage Quote Link to post
doggs 10
That could get some people into trouble with certain dog types. 2 Quote Link to post
matt32 44
That could get some people into trouble with certain dog types. I heard about a bloke coming through the blackwall tunnell he had what he thought was a boxer with him,the police had been told to dna test any bully looking dogs as they were looking for pits, this poor fellas dog was tested came back it had pit in it and was put down. not sure if its a blood test or mouth swab, cheers matt Edited March 4, 2011 by matt32 Quote Link to post
Shazza 52
The test is done via a mouth swab and will give you a list of breeds whose genes come up in your dogs DNA, don't think it goes into any further specifics tho Quote Link to post
matt32 44
Thanks for that shazza Quote Link to post
chimp 299
be a bit harder for bull blooded dogs as the spectrum would be to vast i would of thought Quote Link to post
