i believe my collie bitch is showing signs of a false pregnancy, sent her up to my parents for a few days, she tied with their neutered merle collie boy dexter several times over 3days, brought her home and she was still in bloody heat, kept her seperated for another 2days, enduring constant howling from my boy, found him about 6/7days after she started accepting male attention under the dog trailer with her, they were not tied and i believe she was out of season by then, they were unsupervised together for less than 10mins (hoping shes not in pup) sorry seemed to have started waffling :icon_redface:

if its a false pregnancy, how should i deal with this, considering that shes booked in for training with a top trialing sheepdog trainer

if she is in pup to my fell terrier dog as unlikely as that is, would there be a job for them ie; bushing?

and if shes in pup to the neutered collie (say if the op had been botched) would i be in a position to sue the vet who neutered the dog?

i sincerely hope shes not in pup as shes only a pup herself. and neither potential sire is good enough for her.

I if you catch it soon enough after the mating (not sure exactly how long), you can go to the vets and get an injection. Even if your main worry is the neutered dog, depending on when he was done he may still be able to have pups - speaking as someone who got two pups from a neutered male as vet got the time they should be separated for wrong (its longer than you think 6 months if I remember right).

If she could be pregnant DO NOT use galastop to stop a phantom as it will abort any puppies but they will be born dead/deformed. Sorry I have had this happen to me and its something I would never wish on anyone.

9days ago. im wary of the chemical abortion drugs as i havent used them on my dogs before and this bitch is the last of my own bloodline so im understandably protective of her, plus there is only a short window for her training if i want her to train and compete in isds nursery trials in order to register her with the isds on merit.

i dont think the fell got her, i believe she was nearly fully over her season by that time.

if dexter the merle collie got her the offspring would be freebies as they are of no value to me, i gave dexter to my parents when he failed miserably as a worker. on the condition he was neutered.

will i be able to train and work her if she is having a false pregnancy???

dexter was neutered about a year ago if memory serves me right.

I've noticed that if a bitch has actually been mated her body is more likely to 'think' it is pregnant than if she had just had a season and not been mated. I can't see how a castrated dog could sire a litter unless by some miracle, and if he had only just been castrated: with the testicles gone there is no way sperm could survive a year inside the body; even if there was a retained testicle it wouldn't be functional as sperm needs to be kept below body heat temperature to be viable.
