What info to put on collar tags

Recommended Posts

What information do you put on your dogs' collar tags?

My dog doesn't wear one very often but occasionally I have call to put one on him but someone told me I shouldn't put the dogs name on it. Their reasoning was that if he was stollen the thieves wouldnt know how to call him.

How much information is enough information?

I think you are supposed to put postcode and house name or number- plus mobile no. is good idea. that way you wont miss the call if you are out lookin for him

I think by law you have to put your surname and your address. If you want more chance of getting your dog back without paying the dog warden fine then put your number on it as if you are far from home then some people wont bother taking to your house if its easier to call the dog warden.

Hi

The Control of Dogs Order 1992 states that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. Your telephone number is optional (but we would recommend this).

You can be fined up to £5,000 if your dog does not wear an identification tag

You do not have to put your dogs name on the tag, this is optional. Unfortunately dog stealing does occur and if the thief knows the name of your dog this may help them pass on the dog to the unsuspecting new owners because it appears they know the dog because the dog responds to their name. We would therefore recommend, you do not put your dogs name on the tag.

Exceptions

Dogs used on official duties by the armed forces, HM Customs & Excise or the police

Dogs used for sporting purposes and packs of hounds

Dogs used for the capture or destruction of vermin

Dogs used for driving or tending cattle or sheep

Guide Dogs for the Blind

Dogs used for emergency rescue work

There are many different connotations that you may wish to adopt to ensure that the information on your pet's tag ensures that they can be returned to you as quickly as possible if they stray. Some people feel the need to display the dog's name on the tag as a useful assistance if the dog should be found, while others feel this could be used in a more negative way, if a dog should be stolen.

It is also difficult sometimes to display the whole address and telephone number on a small 1 inch tag. Therefore as your postcode relates to a section of houses in one particular road. If you then add your house number this can accurately identify your address.

An example of the information to put on a dog tag is:

Mr A Smtih

No 54, BH17 7TD

01202 773581

Maine has two mobile numbers as Chipped PLease Scan

REWARD also is a good one.

Mine where a collar at all times unless working or training when as part of the routine i take it off and attach it to the cage door

Miine is one of these as it is flat and silent My link
