Mine did run one at 11.1/2 month but i never slipped her on it, she ran well on it and was never more than half m behind it from what i could see, i'm talking a big f*****g hill this was ran on, took me 10/15 min to walk to the top, she would of had it but they both her and the hare put a new hare up from its seat the one she'd ran 1st went right and the new one went strait on and she ran the new one and that turned down hill and out ran her to cover, Like that other lad was saying it seams a long long time but it was only 2/3 min max! and you never know how long it will last, so with me best not take the risk Quote Link to post

toby1066 413
depends what time of year mate there a big difference between an accidental pre ban hare in the summer time or one in the dead of winter 1 Quote Link to post

poacher3161 1,766
Its unavoidable to those of us who dont have lurchers just has point and fire dogs as hares can jump up in the unlikelyiest of places. Quote Link to post
rolysmate 49
Lots of factors to take into account here, time of year, dog/bitch,type of land so many things could make a big difference Quote Link to post
tote 854
All circumstances are different 3turns, first up if I was out for a mooch the pup would be working loose so slipping or not wouldn't be an option. Saying that if the hare was 60-100 yards away I'd call the pup back into me so it wouldn't get a run but if it kicked one up that would be a different story. Also as has been said it depends on the time of year, there's a big difference between running a strong hare in Jan/Feb and running a 3/4 sized leveret in Aug/Sept. Quote Link to post
Paid 935
Personally, yes, I would. Quote Link to post
DottyDoo 500
fook aye,i would slip, pre ban ofcourse Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
My dog wouldn't be on a slip........so if she seen one it'd be arse up and head down But she wouldn't catch it.......no saluki in her Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
Depends on the pup... What level of fittness it has,had it had a good few rabbits on the lamp.. Time of year and size of feilds. I dont think one bad run would do much damage But i would much prefer to to hold it back and give the dog the best chance. Quote Link to post
chloejinnie 0
depends on your dog. i would say leave it abit longer but if you belive your dog has a chance on it then have a go. dont do this too offten tho as missing runs can dishearten a dog and make them give up. just my oppinion YIS Chloe Quote Link to post
riohog 5,701
i would not slip a young dog on a hare . if by some chance it put one up while mooching well aint much you can do then. !id rather leave a dog till its 14 months or older esspecially during the winter months daytime ....pre ban ovcourse!!.
