Guest JDF
I'll butt in again and say not knocking the ratters, all I'll say is it does take a special kind of dog to go down into the dark alone and search for it's quarry. Then it has to work, dig, follow, maybe search again and stay at it until they have their quarry where there is no place else to go.When this has been done he/she has to stay there taking what ever the quarry can dish out, even if it has to be for numerous hours until his/her master finaly reaches him/her and relieves them of their duty. Despite all this and what ever punishment has been taken, when the dog has healed if it has the heart it will do it all over again and again, alone in the dark with no help. To me that's what I call heart, gameness, stamina. The bitch I lost recently went 2 hours with Charlie on her first dig, when I broke through she had it where it was going nowhere and she never made a sound and did'nt want to leave her quarry either, her eagerness to work despite the punishment she took was faultless and there's a member on this forum that dug her with me so I've no need to try bum her up, but it's that type of attitude in a dog that makes me have more respect for an earth dog. JMHO. it's a real shame you lost her eamon they're getting harder to come by. Quote Link to post
Guest Eamon.Mc
Before you all ask why I'm not out digging today, I've no dog to dig to. And some of the guys I dig with are working so for this sunday I'm an armchair hunter and guess what? It's f***ing shite. Give me a spade any day. Quote Link to post

scotrat 2
To be honest mate, you dont know shite untill the dogs is tested to this type of quarry, week in, week out..... And your mate sounds like a bellend............ J As a said knobby its just "ma dogs better than yours" As for my mate being a bellend you might be right there but you don't or won't find him anywhere boasting about hard his dogs are all his pups are taken before they are born, to real diggers not a computer geek Edited February 4, 2007 by scotrat Quote Link to post
Guest Eamon.Mc
Forgive me for askin scroatrat but is that computer "geeks" as in plural directed to us all? Quote Link to post

scotrat 2
I posted on this topic first and foremost to say each to their own and if the terrier is either used for foxes or rats and flushing its still working is it not I enjoy what I do and wouldn't contemplate putting a young terrier down into an earth(maybe its just me ).All young terriers are started on rats are they not? We should be all sticking together and keep the working dogs lines whether ratters or foxers. And not dis anybodies chosen sport or lively hood Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Chief, Do you find any difference on your success rate whether they are started on rats or not? Did you used to start with rats or have you always started them straight to ground? Thanks Simon Quote Link to post
scotrat 2
Just to start off, a digging lad posted a thread and got abuse so he deleted his own thread . People on here gave him stick about the pics he posted. Now I've noticed that going back through threads that everyone back slaps and comments on dogs killing rats, i.e packs of dogs tearing rats apart. Now I'm by no means getting at anyone who goes ratting, I do a fair bit in the closed digging season. Now why is it that pics can be posted of rats being ripped apart by 1 or more terriers with pics of bloodied terriers out ratting but when a genuine digging lad puts a few pics up of his dogs after a dig he get's torn apart??? Bearing in mind a terrier that is dug to is facing a formiddable oponent usualy the same size or bigger than itself, it is inevitable he will take a hit or 2 even dogs ratting get bitten and bleed so can all you assholes that slabber and give digging lads abuse because of their threads not just feck off and sit behind your keyboards and go visit the crufts doggy site instead of bringing your shite on here. Real guys out there hunting their dogs and working them have enough to deal with, antis and such like that it's a pain in the arse when you come onto a so called hunting forum to be slagged off by so called hunters. If you don't like what you see then don't look or even better don't comment, I'd realy like to see some threads from those of you that posted negative comments about other peoples digs and pics, I'd bet we'd be lucky if even a 1/3 of yous go into the fields with your prized show dogs.Keep ratting boys and posting pics they're great, it's a pity those of us that are digging and sharing our exploits don't be seen in the same light by the armchair hunters out there. Excellent thats what I think and if the digging boys want to post their pictures then they should after all this is a hunting site and anybody that doesn't want to look they can go to the pink and fluffy brigade website Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
can go to the pink and fluffy brigade website We are always after new members   Quote Link to post
