first black rabbit

Recommended Posts

Went out tonight with a mate on a local permission. Walked for nearly two hours to see barely anything. The two shots i did have missed (going to the gym before shooting i have since decided is a bad idea as my arms were like lead weights!) Only marginally but only a headshot would do and im not a fan of torso shots. Anyway to cut it short i got nothing. On driving out to check a regular spot we pass on the way back we passed a HUGE black rabbit at the side of the road (not a real road but one that went into dissrepair years back) we ignored it and checked the other permission and again nothing. On the way back there she still was, we went to the end of the track/road and fetched the rifle from the boot and rolled up next to it, window down and at about 20feet as it hopped to the edge of the embankment it paused, in that split second i putt a pellet into the centre of the back of its head and up it spasmed and landed dead (rolled to the bottom of the bank tho so im nursing thorns in my fingers retrieving it!) The shot had exited out of its right eye socket so no lead to retrieve. Unfortunately when gutting it we found it heavely pregnant so the black rabbit population is decreased...but will make me a nice tea tomorrow :-) cheers for reading will get pics tomorrow :-)

i read somewhere that killing the females whilst pregnant (the rabbit, not you!) is preferred as that way the entire litter dies humanely instead of having to try and survive alone with only one or no parents. i suppose this method of pest control would save you some lead in the long run alsothumbs.gif

There used to be hundreds over here but iv bot seen any in the last few years. I dont know if it was a survivor of them or not tho. My mate reckoned it was a domestic one because of its build but either way should make a nice meat for the pot. I was suprised it was pregnant id have thought the furst litters would have been had by now?
