Saluki's are fine dogs; and I've had both pure and hybrids, and ran Saluki's in their own enviroment; BUT.... if it's a lamping dog your after; then they are not your best choice by a long way !! Get a Lurcher bred pup from lamping parents. It'll do far better and be far cheaper !

Cheers.

i been told whippets are the best lamping dogs,

a mate is taking me out with 2 this week so fingers crossed,

I think you need speed for lamping right enough or a burst of it anyhow. My mate had a cracking collie cross which was the best lamping dog I ever saw. He just knew his job really well....His only fault was squatters, never seen him taking one out of the seat. He'd stalk it till he was within 3 feet and just stare till it ran which to be fair suited us. We weren't doing it for numbers but the love of the chase.

My Aladdin is 9 mnths now, a pure and still learning the ropes!

He rathers leave anything that is standing still untill they bolt!

Good on his feet both day and night!

Sals are spos to have a good rate of staminer and speed that lasts, unlike greys, so Im'e told.

But then again I spos you dont want a chase to go on too long do you, lol.

Sal x's might be a good idea I recon.

Problem with Aladdin, is that he dont stop when he comes to a hedge or bush, and they have thin skin that isnt much protection for them if they play follow the leader in the undergrowth!

By all acounts, Sal X's, dont come with half the hireditory health probs that a pure Sal doed.

Its been bred out of them so I was told.

(Hearsay)

Sal X's are spos to be more inteligent as well.

Hope so, cause Aladdin is either thick or stubborn, lol.

Wouldnt be without him now though.

Would like to put him with a collie bitch!

I'm not trying to dis you mate but I love the line you start with, aladin is 9 months and STILL learning the ropes.... when I first read it I thought you meant he was old and was still learning the ropes, I thought you meant 9 years.... good write up mate

handy collie grey or 3/4 colly gey is quite sufficient for most choirs at night IMO... saluki's have their job as do all dogs but i dont think they excell at night work, thats not to say there are not exceptions but in general, there are a few traveler lad here local to me and thats all they use at night.... pretty sure they only after long ears tho.
