Few hours feral bashing

Recommended Posts

Hello all. First wright up for me in a good while, been out ferreting every weekend for the last month or so.

Me and my mate Scott headed up to the farm for about 2 o'clock. yesterday Drove down the farm road and knocked on the door but no one was in. Decided it was best not to go ahead and shoot with no one being around, as i had forgot to phone him to clear it with him. So we got back into the car and drove to another farm down the road and knocked on his door to ask for permission, as when shooting ferals on the farm we often see them flying two and from the other farm back to the one we shoot on. Farmer was fine with this, so we had a quick look about but wasnt much about, going to go back during the week with my details for him and get boundaries mapped out.

Got back into the car and when passing the first farm noticed the farmer had returned so went and told him we were there to shoot pigeons and we got to it :gunsmilie:

First though we spotted a rabbit out in one of the fields so Scott creeped over and took the shot leaning on a wall but could only just see the rabbits head between two posts and unfortunately missed the shot. There was actually a few rabbits kicking about, we have never seen them there before and on inspection found a warren behind one of the barns so that was noted! Also stumbled upon this -

Edit before posting: Theres supposed to be a pic here but for some reason when I press 'preview post' it takes me straight to the forum index and totally scraps my write up, this has happened before, but when i take the link to the pic out, it works fine, anyone any idea why?? :wallbash: :wallbash: I'll try and post the pic up in a reply to the thread

So round to the barns, we decided just to take turns at shooting. Walked round and into one of the barns and out flew about 20 birds, and there was also a good few already on roofs as well :D

We were taking turns to shoot, just shooting one or two off the roof, them flying away, and waiting for them to come back. Also shot about 3 inside on of the barns, shots rangin from about 15 yards to about 35 yards. End of the day tally was 10 ferals but only 5 could be retrieved. Think the score was 6-4 to Scotty, my shooting wasnt what it should have been today unfortunately. Had a few misses, also missed the same on twice. Putting that down to wind, shot was taken from inside a barn n never thought about wind, should have done though :wallbash:

On the way out the long farm road i said to Scott to keep the Ultra out incase any bunnys were out by the road, spotted one about 30 yards infront the passenger side and about 5 yards to the left so Scott managed to open the door, get the gun out and was about to rest the gun against the car and the rabbit bolted!! Ah well

Anyway we had a good day and one more permission in the bag. Wether or not theres much to be shot on it remains to be seen but as its right next to the other farm we can go from one permission to the other just by crossing a fence, no car needed to go from one to another :tongue2:

Heres the end of day pic with the 5 we retreived

Excellent write up. Sounds like your`ll have to practise shooting from the vehicle. Ive had it several times now when i pull into my permission the rabbits are out and i end up shooting 1 before I even get out of the car!!! Sort of takes them by supprise!

Cheers guys. Yeh Jackin box i know what you meen, the rabbits on the road to the farm would be quite hard to shoot from the window though as the hedge blocks any view into the field and the ones on the road side of the fence are more or less infront of you so have to try and get out the car. The rabbits round the building could probably be shot from the car if in range though.
