baw 4,360
And to make matters worse, he had a family of 8 lol What was that ? ..Two kids, a goat, three chickens and a pair of ferrets ?? Ba, you crack me up !! Keep 'em coming, mate !! Cheers. LOL C, he did, 5 boys and 3 girls..... randy auld c**t. He could snare anything mate, rabbit/hare/fox/deer if it had a leg or a neck he could snare it and did Canny craic, as we say doon here in the borders !! Cheers. I even seen him snare a sea trout You'd be amazed what a knowledgeable man can catch with wire. catching troute or salmon with a snare aint hard ......... Is it not? Makes you wonder if it is that easy most salmon poachers risk all by using nets sorry fella didnt realise your old grandpa is the only man in the world who can catch game with a wire .... the reason people use a drag net on the river is that you can get in and out quickly catching the maximum amount of fish in the shortest time .... but if you want one for the pot you aint going to carry a fecking 50 yard 15 yard drop drag net are you ??? no you will carry a snare in and out with a fish in minuets ......... I never said he was the only one who could catch salmon with a wire, it was your comment saying it was easy, I can assure you, it is far from easy. Boiling an egg, buttering toast, scratching your baws is easy, snaring a salmon isn't. How many folk reading this could honestly say they could go to a river tomorrow and snag a salmon? Not many I can assure you. I agree with you regarding the net but you must agree, that is easier than snaring a salmon and is more likely to get you caught and also marks the salmon. I can't be arsed arguing with you to be honest, if you think snaring a salmon is easy, fair do's i was taught how to snare salmon and tickle trout from the age of 10 and believe me it aint hard. i used to jump over the old dears gate walk 20 meters to the river tawe and be back in 10 mins with a salmon ...... Right............. I said above it's amazing what a knowledgeable man can do with a wire, clearly you don't count yourself as knowledgeable so, no arguement there Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Be interested to know if lurchers are used a spot filler across the pond and other countries or soley as vermin dogs.... I think you will find that wherever in the world you are if there is a means of feeding yourself there is a man that is using it. Especially amongst 'first peoples' and crazy back to nature rednecks/hippys. Quote Link to post
optimus 447
I love the romantic notion of the lurcher feeding the family but can i ask, and this is probably better aimed at lurcher owners who kept them a few years ago. Have any of our members actually genuinely used a lurcher to help them through tough times, by putting food on the table and perhaps the game dealers/butchers trays...... [/quoteII WONT PLACE MYSELF NEAR THOSE WHO DURING THE MINER`S STRIKE ETC RELIED ON THEIR DOGS TO PUT MEAT ON THE TABLE. THOUGH IN THE LATE 8O`S DUE TO DOMESTIC TURMOIL I FOUND MYSELF LIVING WITH MY GRAN WHO WAS A PENSIONER. ALTHOUGH I ATE WELL ENOUGH POCKET MONEY WAS ZERO & AT THAT TIME THERE WAS A BIT OF AN INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF BIGGER/EDIBLE GAME IN THE STRATHCLYDE AREA. DUE TO A FRIEND WITH A BUTCHER CONTACT(& a car to pick it up from me as i had no licence) I WAS ABLE TO KEEP MY DOG & MYSELF WELL ENOUGH. THERE WAS ALWAYS A READY MARKET & DECENT PRICES BACK THEN WITH NO QUESTION`S ASKED!... NOWADAYS THERE ARE LUXURY FLATS OVERLOOKING THE AREA I HUNTED, MORE HOUSES BUILT WHERE THERE WERE FIELDS, PLUS A 24hr ASDA & RETAIL PARK BESIDE MY OLD HAUNTS(i think they term that as progress!!!!) SO FLASHING A LAMP ABOUT WOULD BRING PROMPT ATTENTION TO YOURSELF THESE DAYS Edited March 2, 2011 by optimus Quote Link to post

GUN SHIP 2
Back in the 's we all subsidised our income with poaching, guns, nets and dogs all played their part, things were pretty desperate at times and scrap also played its part,Thatcher turned honest men into theives, even me. I'll agree that Thatcher f****d the working man, (and not in a nice way !! LOL !!), etc !! Cheers. Please explain ?. As to the miners strike British coal messed things up long before, maggie came into power. Now it does seem strange that coal, heavy industries, have notseen an upsurge in 25 odd yr?.
