secretagentmole 1,701
Well down to the permission, dull, negligible side wind, rain had made the ground somewhat wet. Walking round the edge of the perimeter saw 2 rabbits, sitting mid track. As I advanced cautiously round they started to move slowly to the field edge. Dropped down to low crouch and advanced, they observed. Moved cautiously into prone position (thanks Simon), lined Marina's sight up, got it between eye and ear, breathed in slowly, breathed out half way, kept her steady and squeezed the trigger. Rabbit drops, hooray, does mini break dance, no scream, then goes down a blasted hole! I could have sworn he was more than 5 feet away! I got it, lined it up, whammo, dropped and shoot a rabbit trained by Paul Frickin Daniels. I know I got a head shot, no blood anywhere, so I have not given a leg or neck injury as there would have been blood and screaming. So Mole 1, Rabbits 1, score draw (Rabbits currently winning on aggregate)! I'll be back! Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Bad luck mate. Sounds like you hit it in the neck or someplace, but not the head and brain moley. Otherwise it would have dropped on the spot or flipped backwards, strained it's leg muscles, kicked a bit and lay still. There is almost always a bit of blood on the ground after flowing from the ears. Headshots are often bloody affairs. It had enough of it's instinctive senses to make for its burrow pal. Not the desired outcome but, it happens mate. It'll die down there, so, you can claim a kill, even if not a perfect one. Better luck next time fella, eh! Simon Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I feel upset about that, not what I was aiming for! I will go back and keep practising on the papers as well. My Stingray behaved perfectly though, I could have sworn that I had set up on that weak spot! Thanks for all the advice Simon, I will keep practising, as that is the way to get better! Few more days down on the range, make sure everything is perfect! Looking at getting some camo as well, Andy has been advising me, but I think I might get one of the cheap suits, even if only for dog walking be nice to have shower proof gear and I found some at £8.50 a set (unused NBC suits). Be great to go fishing in as well! Edited February 28, 2011 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Update to say that the wife has decided to come with me as well to show me how it is done, this could be interesting! Quote Link to post
darren watson 14
i used to occasionally shoot my mates webley stingray, really nice gun. my mate pulled off some world class shots just using the ironsights on it! good luck with yours mate. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Cheap, unissued NBC suits! You're going to look a funny bugger walking about in what will look like charcoal-lined, grey green carpet underlay!! Actually though, the NBC suits in my RAF days were much like the colours of rabbits and make for good low-light cammo. A lot of velcro fastenings I remember. They aren't the most comfortable of things to wear on a hot day Moley! They are not a ventilated suit that lets in air and breathes but, a fully insulated one that's designed to keep airborne chemical agents out....and your body heat in! Tip: Take plenty of water with you on a hot day's shooting! Best of luck with that one! Simon Quote Link to post

I am thinking of dog walking in winter drizzle, beach fishing (even on a summers day if that north easterly sets in it can be ruddy cold on Cley beach) and boat fishing, much the same problem as the beach! Camo pattern is actually DPM 90, also got a silicon coating on the outside to stop light rain, damp, etc and after the past few days tempted! But Andy advised against them, so like I say not for shooting, be nice to have a set of dog walking waterproofs though (even though I will look like a Numpty in a Noddy suit)! pianoman 3,587
Then I wouldn't bother with one of these suits Moley. Plenty of decent DPM cammo about for not a lot of cash. And far more comfortable mate. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Shower proof too? I am looking for something cheap as I have a Labrador that behaves like an Upkeep mine (and looks like the dog of the first Squadron Leader of that outfit as well)! Edited to say the guy emailed the wife back offering the suits at £4 each, collected! At these prices the darned things are damned nigh disposable, so there must be a reason why they are so cheap! Time to look for some real camo as Andy advised! Edited February 28, 2011 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
if you want waterproofs for dog walking, fishing and ambushing mate you can pick up fairly cheap second hand gore tex in dpm from the surplus shops mate, its a bit too noisy for stalking but if your lying in wait for the bunnies then it'll keep you dryer than most kit cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
Karpman 44
Would stay away from the NBC suits if you cane mole mate. I'm a little frugal and like a bargain as much as the next bloke! These things can be a royal pain in the ass though, They let the charcoal leak on you after a bit of movement and it cracks, Can't really wash em and there noisy and hot. Better stuff around for a cheap price. Charity shops can be good if your lucky and surplus gortex of course. Leme know how ya get on if you do get NBC mate Karpman Quote Link to post
