dave1372 83 Posted February 27, 2011 Report Share Posted February 27, 2011 (edited) Went down to one of the premissions last night to have a good walkabout, see what was about and give the new lithium ion battery for the lamp a test to see how well it would perform with the 100watt lamp. We had not long started our climb up one of the hills and we stopped half way up for a little breather and gave a call to see if any eyes popped up. To my surprise about 70 yards further up the hill just on the fenceline by the gorse bushes we spotted a set of eyes and to my surprise this particular fox didn't run like a steam train as soon as the lamp was on it. Most of the foxes I had seen on this farm in the last month were well wise to the lamp. We turned off the lamp whilst my mate got his quad sticks and rifle sorted then gave another little call and then flicked the lamp back on. Surprisingly the fox was still happily staring at us from the same spot.... a few seconds later my mate let his.243 do the talking and down it went : It was a nice vixen. The rest of the night was a great walk but only saw one more set of eyes which wouldn't come close and stayed a good 200 yards away just over the ridgeline...but that one can wait till next time Quite impressed with the new battery well worth the money to lessen the amount of stuff to carry about. The farmer was pleased though as he doesn't want many about when he starts lambing at the end of next month. ....did you get anything today at the golf course? Quote Link to post
hw100sniper 2 Posted February 27, 2011 Report Share Posted February 27, 2011 (edited) Gave our Blair a shot at 1(he missed) but it was asking a bit much of him at about 160yds .We had promised him a shot as he'd been so patient but probably in hind sight it wasnt the easiest shot to give any one for their first fox.Ill need to try and get to the shop and get more ammo and give him a shot on the range to get him used to the 243 Edited February 27, 2011 by hw100sniper Quote Link to post
