halamrose 24
I haven't bought a rimmy yet but I've more or less got my head round the range. The Synthetic stocks have been criticized as being too week for bipod use - any owners care to comment? The wooden stocks are either 'droopy' for use with open sites or 'straight' which is better with a scope. Of course you can use a scope with a droopy stock but it's considered better to have a solid connection between cheek and stock so a higher stock is better. The droopy stock should line your eye up lower for open sites. The wooden straight stock models are American which has a normal barrel and Varmint which has heavy barrel which is supposedly more accurate but - erm - heaver. There are graphs on the internet showing muzzle velocity for various barrel lengths. 16 inches doesn't cost much velocity and is handier in vehicles and woodland but costs a bit more. So my choice would be an 16" American. Now, don't ask about cleaning HMR but look up some old threads about it. Cheers, Halam Quote Link to post

Cheers, Halam I do have some rimfires, and have used a few over the years, I have no need for anything other than CZ in the field! Anyone can have an issue with a plastic stock, but I run a HMR and .22lr Silhouette, my lad has a Style and I know many other synthetic stock, Bipod, CZ users, who have no problems! Mine are used almost exclusively with a Bipod and then slung over my shoulder by the Bipod attachment, so they take a pounding...no problems yet! The varmint barrel is NOT more accurate, unless by some chance you decide to empty about 20 magazines straight off and "Warm" the barrel up, it may just have a tiny edge on the light barrel then! These are not centerfires and in HMR it takes some doing to get a HOT barrel! Cold/normal barrel temperatures will make no discernible difference to harmonics either! The straight stocks are designed for a scope, the drop stocks are designed for open sights! Take a look at my HMR on the bipod in the thread...a night out with Deker by Davyt63, Davy, the rifle and the bipod didn't have any issues Edited March 2, 2011 by Deker Quote Link to post
