fallow buck 18
hello there! I've been working lurchers for the last 8 years, started out on london marshes with a friends whippet cross and went from there.. Im still very happy with my dogs and never plan to move away from this but I have been considering for some time now about taking up an air rifle or similar, but i'll be honest i haven't a clue on this sort of thing,, I would be using it for ducks and water fowl, possibly crow and woodies too, gives me something to do during the summer, provides more meat for the table and keeps ferrets fed too!!! had a little play at clays and enjoyed it!! the only thing i'm slightly worried about is i'm a light girlie and don't want anything with too much kick back, any suggestions on what type or pellets etc used for different quarry, am a complete novice and fancy a new challenge!! feel free to pm me thank you kindly for reading, all the best Fallow Buck Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Hi, Fallow. You've said in a previous post that you've been deer stalking before. I can only assume that you were useing something with rather more kick than any airgun will produce so you've really got nothing to worry about. Have you been on here before? Your posts seem somehow familiar... Cheers Edit.... Ah, Lurcherlass. Makes sense now. Didn't read that properly Edited February 26, 2011 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi Fallow. Either a .22 or .177 calibre air rifle will do the job of a hunting arm for small game and vermin. If you are a slightly built girl, have a look at an Air Arms S200 pre-charged pneumatic rifle. This is a small, compact and very accurate rifle. You'll need a riflescope, scope mounts and a seperate divers bottle full of air and a hose line to charge its cylinder. Similarly, an Air Arms S410 rifle may be a good investment. Or there are spring air rifles but these are a degree heavier but not so much. One of the very best you could try is a Weihrauch HW95 break-barrel rifle. Google searches will help you see what these and other air rifles look like and help inform you better. All these guns are mildly or absolutely recoiless so, you won't be encountering anything like a shotgun's recoiling blast. Lots of help and advice here with just about any type of rifle you could choose. Just ask whatever it is you need to know. All the best for your searches. Simon Quote Link to post

77 si 21
hiya mate, Normally when I speak to some one who says that they are interested in taking up air rifle hunting I don't hesitate to advise them to a good quality spring powered rifle like possibly a weihrauch or something similar as this is a good place for anyone to start. But if you do think that the weight an the recoil of the rifle is going to be an issue then I would suggest you get a pcp rifle as these are generally a lot lighter and have nearly zero recoil. Hope this helps you. ATB Si Edited February 26, 2011 by 77 si Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Hi Fallow (everybody else now ducks as Mole rears his ugly head), just checked the great interwebby thing and found out that even for an air rifle of sub 12 foot pounds in southern Ireland you need a license, that's right folks, even for BB guns (now waiting for that to happen over here given what has happened over the past week or two)! This thread on here apparently has a lot of good information about gun law in Southern Ireland! Look here! Hope this helps! Quote Link to post
