does anybody work pedigree greyhounds?

Recommended Posts

i had one once, she was a pain in the neck, poor recall, and if there was a puddle she'd either brake midrun. or go round it and miss the rabbit as a result! damn dog hated getting her feet wet, wouldnt jump fences when out hunting despite me having taught her to jump, pure nightmare, gave her away to a lad who came to the house buying ferrets

personally i think if you bring them on from a pup their no different from any lurcher pup you bring on ,only thing could lack a bit stamina but could be wrong

aren't they more prone to injury that a lurcher though due to their speed and their bones not being as sturdy?

I'd agree my original Intentions was to work him and if he made the grade add him to my breeding program to add abit more pace to my stock, he was surprising and no different to my lurchers part from poor recovery after a large run 800yards plus but would recover eventually but I used to take him with 2 other lurchers and slip alternative and would only take him 2 times a week where as my other lurchers was out 4-5 times a week so he had time to recover. But could manage a hard niight on the lamp which Was The most shocking, just shame was injury prone but can't have it all lol

i think it good that theirs lad out trying 2 work them instead of putting non workers grey 2 lurchers and hopeing their be good ,if you got proven working greys out their then you get a worker 2 worker rather just track 2 worker ,just my opion thats why its a open forum and we all have different views

hi all

my mate has a irish coursing greyhound bitch that he works regular. she has a good recall, jumps, gets stuck in the big stuff aswell.

so in my opinion it depends on how they get brought on and if your lucky enough to avoid injurys thats a big help.

my first sighthound was a ex-coursing greyhound bitch, mustve been about 10yrs old when i got her, she had exceptional prey drive, used her to hunt rabbits, she didnt have brilliant recall but nothing would stop her, had to keep her chained at home as she'd jump my 6ft fence and go around the village hunting cats

They can be brilliant workers if you get the right one and bring it on right same as most dogs. Internet hunter dog is a good worker would tackle anything n still young n a bit immature still but coming On great should be even better next season as he only 18/19 mnths but litter sister is with another member on here n he doing awesome with her they both act very similar to lurchers but to expect a mature one that came straight from a racing kennel to be q good worker would need a lot of work putting
